Default Running TATW from Steam, Launcher.exe ??

What exactly does this process do? It stays even after closing the game, and it claims to be using up about 10~15% of my CPU. When I try to start up TATW again, it creates another Launcher.exe process, using up even more memory/CPU. What's up with that?

Also, this causes the music from the launcher to continue playing even after I run TATW, so I hear two different music at the same time...

*PS this is off-topic but when did the hacking of the user database happen? It's been a few years since I've logged on and so I saw the notice for the first time today. It didn't have a timestamp on it so I'm wondering how long ago this was.

EDIT: Okay so silly me but I figured out a workaround to this problem. If anybody else has this problem, what I did was:

    1. go into the Steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war folder and rename/delete Launcher.exe `rename kingdoms.exe into Launcher.exe

    2. in Steam under the Library tab right click on Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms and go into Properties>Set Launch Options...

    3. put this "--features.mod=mods/americas" without the quotes

Now after doing this you would launch TATW by running Kingdoms. It's not really a fix since now I can't play the original Kingdoms or the other campaigns without undoing the changes but it's not like I would ever play them again instead of TATW anyway...

This was a great idea! Got me around the annoying launcher staying open and giving me an error.

Now, by chance, do you know how we could apply this to regular medieval 2 as well? In the launch options for Medieval 2, can we pass the base game to launch instead of a mod? Do you happen to know the command for that?

    Thanks!
