Default How to keep Generals on the front lines

I find once I expand and grow my empire, I have a hard time keeping generals near the front lines. Everytime someone comes of age or I get a family member, they always spawn way back behind the front lines at my capital or close to it.

Then its a multi-turn hike just to get them to the front lines. Then its almost not worth it to even bother with them, so I just besiege with a captain instead.

To counter this, concentrate on trying to destroy tiny rebel/enemy faction armies with leaderless armies, provided you win handsomely enough you should spawn a general through the "Man of the Hour" event. A great plus side of people coming of age back in your capital is they can gather reinforcements from nearby settlement and take them safely to the front lines AND very importantly they have access to the mercenary spawning pools that you haven't used in many turns so if you have excess money you can hire an army almost overnight.

EDIT: Check out my AAR "The Spirit of the Blitz" for examples of how to use generals who spawn in your capital.

A little trick to help with this is to keep an eye on your family tree, on the game turn when a son hits 15.5 years old and the father is dead, switch your capital to the settlement you want a general to be... the next turn he will come of age at your chosen place!

Then just switch your capital back.

Sons will also come of age at the same settlement their father is govenor.

Dumping fathers in front line settlements right before their sons come out of age is the best solution.

Since my generals only stay behind when they have 7+ chivalry, it's usually pretty easy to leave fathers in towns near the border.
