seige engines in the field.
After a long break, I've come back to playing DLV. I'm just starting to investigate the use of siege engines in my armies and trying to figure out if they're worth the movement penalties or not. For some reason whenever I try to launch a custom battle it crashes. Do you guys use seige engines and which ones are the best before gunpowder when it comes to field battles?

Re: seige engines in the field.
I try not to use siege weapons in open battles, movement on camp too slow. But when I can obtain them I use them for sieges, catapults are very useful. No suicide "storm the walls strategy" for me.
The best gunpowder weapon I have used in the field is the bombard, the flaming ammo and the low height of the thing decimate nearby units. Evil

Never minded the movement penalties. But siege engines are a righteous pain to defend if you get stuck in a non-siege battle, IMO. Catapults and ballista simply don't count for much on the open field, so in pre-gunpowder play, I don't use them.
