Default Ancient Roman Cities etc. on Google Earth

I gotta say, I berly started doing this today, but I started checking out various ancient Roman cities using the Google Earth satellite images, and its unbelievably awesome. I've surveyed the cities of Lepcis Magna, Rome, Alexandria, the Giza Pyramids, Palmyra, and Dura Europos. It's awesome to still see the remanants of the city walls of Palmyra and Dura Europos! They're still there from what I can tell. You guys ought to try this out some time.

btw, some very important Roman cities were located in Serbia too, like Sirmium, Singidunum, Naisus, Felix Romuliana etc.

true the dalmatian provinces and Illyricum are all very important provinces. Heck great part of emperors from the late period come from that parts. Great soldiers by the way but some definely lack the ruling capacities.

I also recommend watching the palace of diocletian in split.

There is a cool feature in google earth where you can walk through the reconstructed rome of 312 AD.

    Its called Rome reborn.

Call me crazy, but I swear I see what looks like the remains of what could've been a legion fortress at Ctesiphon. Ctesiphon and Seleuceia were apparently right across from eachother at the Tigris River, approximately 20 miles south of Baghdad Iraq. The modern name for the town at Ctesiphon is "Salman Pak," and according to the wiki, "the only visible remains are the great arch Taq-i Kisra or Tagh-e Kasra located in what is now the Iraqi town of Salman Pak." I zoomed in on that location at Ctesiphon and it's clearly still there. However, if you look just slightly to the northwest of Salman Pak across the Tigris river, there's this huge rectangle and I'm thinking like damn, its so clearly defined, it almost looks like a legion fortress. Perhaps a little too big for a legion fortress, but Julian The Apostate supposedly took a crap-ton of soldiers with him down there so I don't know. I zoomed in on that rectangle and it looks like it even has a moat of water leading up to the Tigris to the northwest of it. I don't know, could be wishful thinking from a Rome fanatic, but whatever, you guys should check it out.

This is cool idea but I agree that you must see them on live. Im living near to our first capital city Pliska and also near to Preslav and Turnovgrad now Veliki Preslav and Veliko Turnovo. They're really great. Walls, buildings, fortresses, castles etc.... And if you wonder where are this cities - they're in Bulgaria near Shumen town (in which Im leaving and also he has got a fortress).

So I just checked out what you were talking about. That mountain fortress in Veliko Turnovo is pretty friggin' massive! The fortress at Shumen is relatively small compared to that one but still just as fascinating.
    Cool stuff bro
