Icon5 Diplomacy on Very Hard/Very Hard

    Hello,

after reading a few diplomacy guides and experiencing inability to effectively apply them with results, i am wondering, is it actually possible to maintain good relations (with allies) and reputation on highest campaign difficulty?

Did you manage to effectively use diplomacy on very hard difficulty for at least first 100 turns of the game?

PS: I would value most an advice from someone playing Turks, as they are my favourite faction, but any advice will be helpful

    Greetings,

    Smeto

If you want to keep your reputation high:
-Ally with countries far, far away that probably won't die:
As the Turks, this means England, Spain, Denmark. The longer you stay allied, the more your rep rises.

Don't ally with two countries that are close to each other, because if they declare war, you have to choose between them. That decreases rep.

Giving small gifts (100 florins, map info) to neighbor countries will keep relations pretty decent.
Don't march across their lands under any circumstances. Use a boat, they're speedy and don't decrease rep.
Don't sack or exterminate cities. Occupying them raises your rep.

    How to use diplomacy effectively:
Don't make stupid offers obviously. (For example: You demand Constantinople, you offer 2,000 florins.)
If your rep is high, the chances of offers succeeding are high, and there is a less chance of being jumped by the Byzantines or Egyptians.
Don't make an offer if it is "balanced," instead make it on "generous" because if you get rejected the first time, the second offer will say "not interested" no matter how generous

I think that gets changed in newer patches, if your second offer is more generous there is still a chance of it being accepted.

If you make a demand with no offer (without adding accept or we will attack), the AI might make a counter offer which is usually fairly reasonable, for example demand Algiers, without offering anything, and provided its not important to the faction they'll make a counter offer demanding money for it.
