Default We are being robbed by US government?

I just checked some news in CNBC and quickly found some amazing stuff

    Currency rate is:

    USD/JPY is 79.1 comparing with 130 5 years ago.
    USD/CHF is 0.81 comparing with 1.25 5 years ago.
1 ounce gold is equal to 1600$ comparing with 470$ ago

And Federal Reserve gonna setup QE 3, that means dollar value will decrease more in the future .

That's mean our asset is devalued 40% within 5 years if we compared with other currency. If we compare it with gold, dollar value is devalued 300%.

That's mean average Joe is getting poorer.

it also means gold is getting more and more expensive as people are worried for their assets and the only solid way to secure ones wealth against theupcoming storms seems to be buying gold. something with a real value. this demand of course drives its price.

i think too though that the average joe will lose wealth and as a next step has to learn coping with lower living standards (not in the us only, in the whole western rich world)

Since the average joe owes more than he has in savings (in the US) this works out in his favor...

i would be more concerned about the 6 trillion ( I think) dollars the government owes Americans due to borrowing it from the social security fund which has generated a profit almost every year since its inception. Obama threatened that checks may not be sent to SS recipients or military, in other words the government would default not just against other countries like China or people who own treasury notes, but also every legally working american.

    What are you asking here?

    The US isn't a direct-democracy if that's what you're asking. I don't know any state that is.

Business management never equated sound economic policy. The US being on the verge of collapse, being a bit melodramatic there. And tbh, the US doesn't have anything to learn from the Australian Labour government.

Today, an ounce of gold gets you more than in any point in history. A dollar gets you less than in any point in history.

The US economy is being so badly managed, its difficult to work out whether its truly incompetence, apathy or a deliberate attempt by those in power to wreck the current system and impose something new. Time will tell I guess.

Just some food for thought. When the USD gets this low it again makes it cost affordable for manufacturing to move back to the USA and add jobs. A weaker dollar means the consumers of other countries can afford to buy more American products. There is a silver lining.

If that were true, then Zimbabwe would have the best damn economy on the planet. But it doesn't, does it?

They don't have a top-tier infrastructure, educated workforce and are loaded with government corruption. That's why Zimbabwe is such a mess - investors don't dare touch them.

Investors will always back the USA. This is only a slight dip in our currency - it will bounce back over time.

I think the yanks are actually quite intelligent. They import all those fancy products from China, Japan... and they pay them with ... what?? They don't even give them paper with some fancy pics on. They just push 'enter' on the keyboard and voila: China has a few billion more of imaginary assets! When US default - and they WILL default - all those dollars China & co has, will evaporate...... and then they take us to war

You just figured out the government is stealing from us? They have been since, well forever. There's no such thing as an honest government, and the US Government gets more corrupt each year.

Neither can the UK, just quietly.

Just not as bad as the US.

Slight dip? When I was working in the US in 2000, the Aussie dollar bought 47 US cents. It's 103 US cents today, and has been up around 110, although our socialist government has given it a battering with its go it alone carbon tax.

The US is functionally insolvent, and if it were a company, it would be liquidated and its assets sold off. The US is like a gambler who thinks he is saved when he finds another credit card with some left on its limit. But he keeps gambling, and that credit card is maxed out too. The US is neither broke, or "functionally insolvent". The US is not a bank.

The US pays its bills every single day. Most of those bills add up to more than a substantial amount of countries' GDP. We are still the best debtor in the world. That doesn't happen when you dont pay your bills. Countries are literally jostling for position to loan us money.

And while it has become popular to think - China does not want, nor could it afford the US to fail. All China will do is capitalize on making money by lending us money, and from the absurd political stagnation that will allow them to leap ahead in technology sectors that the Republicans have adopted into their ridiculous ideological stance.

Ok, if i were an investor, what would you recommend?
