    Default ITS OFFICIAL!

Found an interesting article today, thought id share it...

IT'S OFFICIAL: The Whole World Thinks Republicans Are Dangerous Maniacs Threatening Everyone

    SOURCE
Yes, the rest of the world is watching this embarrassing debt ceiling nonsense, and it is growing dismayed.

Der Spiegel has a roundup of commentary in German newspapers about the fight, and the universal message is this:

The US is holding the entire world hostage, and it's the Republicans that are playing with fire.

Hard to accuse the Germans (who are no fans of fiscal profligacy) of being motivated by politics, or of having some inherent reason to attack Republicans. This is just the reality of what they're doing.
Heres a direct qoute from the german article...

"Playing poker is part of politics, as is theatrical posturing. That's fair enough. But what America is currently exhibiting is the worst kind of absurd theatrics. And the whole world is being held hostage.

"Irrespective of what the correct fiscal and economic policy should be for the most powerful country on earth, it's simply not possible to stop taking on new debt overnight. Most importantly, the Republicans have turned a dispute over a technicality into a religious war, which no longer has any relation to a reasonable dispute between the elected government and the opposition."

"If it continues like this, the US will be bankrupt within a few days. It would cause a global shockwave like the one which followed the Lehman bankruptcy in 2008, which triggered the worst economic crisis since the war. Except it would be much worse than the Lehman bankruptcy. The political climate in the US has been poisoned to a degree that is hard for us (Germans) to imagine. But we should all fear the consequences."
I have a feeling this is going to end up like the last time the Reps tried to shut down the gov during Clintons presidency and as we all know that didnt end well for the Reps.

    What do you guys think?

The Second World War, I believe. It must have been hearkening back to the Great Depression.

Because the average politically informed non-American westerner doesn't really care much about US politics, never mind anybody else.

Just because hte Der Spiegel mentioned it buried in some comment, doesn't mean its a widespread opinion. I bet most Germans don't know what the Republicans policies are, what they are arguing, or anything else apart from them being a conservative party.

The second world war triggered a boom rivalled only by the 90s.

um did you read the article, the lehman brothers collapse proved that trouble in the american economy means trouble for the world economy

also im sure they meant during and right after the war when the country was almost completely destroyed.

Yes, the US economy is interlinked with the the rest of the world economies, and crises can have knock on effects elsewhere. But the average citizen isn't politically informed about other countries.

Do you understand the politics of countries besides the USA? I bet you don't. I am uninformed about the politics of any countries besides Ireland and maybe the UK. I mean I know the politcal spectra of certain foreign parties (I bet you know the labour party in the UK is a left wing party), but nothing else.

The boom began the second the war did...nothing spurs growth like a sudden, gigantic boom in sales.

And what damage did the USA suffer besides a couple of lolzers explosive balloon attacks?

    Several reasons:

    1) The title is sensationalist and obviously inaccurate.
    2) The article was characterised by
    a) Unsupported opinions.
    b) Factual uncontamination.
    3) The entire premise(id. the title) is not well developed, nor is it sufficiently supported.
    4) It is unnecessarily emotionally charged.

    1) True its sensationalist but not inaccurate.
    2) how are they unsupported everything they said was fact.
    3) its a story about an article it doesnt require developement merely reporting

just because it doesnt fit into your internal story of reality doesnt make it false

    1) I am part of the world, but I disagree with the contention of the title, therefore, it is false and inaccurate.
    2) Everything they said was an opinion without any fact present to back it up, but this is really directed at the German article.
    3) Actually, what the title read was that it is officially true that the Republicans are dangerous maniacs threatening everyone, not that an article claims that the Republicans are dangerous maniacs threatening everyone. Therefore, my point still stands.

This is not my internal version of reality. It is reason.

No, I meant more far reaching effects, such as those alluded to in the article.

Is there supposed to be a global economic meltdown in the wind?

Neither are prepared to fix the budget. They are just arguing about a few hundred million. What needs to happen is that the budget should be cut by about 1 trillion, and the debt paid off. You owe Uncle Sam money, do you think he lets you roll your debt over or borrow some more to pay it off? Hell no. The US Federal government must live within its means, or the US government and the US state will lose its sovereignty. It's really simple stuff, but nobody seems to get it. The Democrats keep saying that any programs that are cut, mean that the person arguing for the cuts, 'hates the military' or hates the elderly. It doesn't mean that at all - it just means - you cant afford it.

I thought that by now it was common knowledge that most republicans are either uninformed and deluded individuals(Evangelical Nutjobs and Socially Conservative paranoids) or the unofficial spokesmen for the Financial Elites(Banking Tycoons and massive speculators).

I was kinda..scared by the thread title..
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."
~General Pershing, report to Washington, 26 July 1917
