    Default (?): Total War

    Hey there.
So, I can't think of a name, though I've been rolling a few over in my mind.

If you see Gigantus, give him rep for making this possible via Geomod. He also answered a lot of my Q's.

I'm in the process of devoting many, many hours of my life to make a great mod. I have a lot of teaser pictures I would like some feedback on. I would like constructive criticism more than anything. I have a lot of aspirations. Anyway, I need help.

I'm doing a ton of mapping lately, and I need a hand with some scripting. If one or two people would mind helping, I'd be very grateful. So yeah, I'm requesting a team... and a name for the mod, haha...

This is more of a mod for the GC rather than the battles, but in the far future we can tackle battle things.

    ANYWAY, the pictures. Right.

As you can see, I have added MANY regions, and that's not all of them. I've been working tirelessly for the last few days but I'll need more time as I move east into Russia and Anatolia, southeast into Egypt and the Holy Lands, south into North Africa, and north into Scandinavia. I just wanted to give a teaser.

Those are NOT the starting regions. That'd be lame. That's turn 29 and I was playing as Byzantine trying out the game I have so far.

NOTE: The Rebel regions I have created don't have a garrison army in them, that's why expanding was so easy and everyone has so much land by turn 29. I'm trying to figure out how to add garrisons at the moment...

    The starting regions:

Anyway, remember that I'm not done and that I'm trying very hard. In the future (with some help, and a name) I would like to add in Ireland as a playable faction. Also, I'll add some cities to Mexico.

    Any other ideas?

Please PM me if you're interested in making a team, I've already done a lot of the mapping work and won't need help with that.

Why I think this is going to be a good mod:
Well, there are a lot of places to go to expand in the beginning. This is good because you get to pick exactly how to build your empire and where to go. This makes the whole overall experience more alluring War between factions would be more realistic; more territories, the faction lasts longer as a whole. I didn't make the map so fighting would be tedious but I made it so that the experience has some longevity.

If you want more pics, please post so, I'll be glad to take some.

NOTE: This doesn't actually aim for historical accuracy as the main point, but I'll tell you that I used references from maps from the 900s - 1100s for each region.

I.E. I used a 900s Iberia map, a 1050 Hungary/Balkan map, a 1100 British Isles map, an 1100 Holy Roman Empire/Germanic States map, and a 1065 Italian map for the cities. I didn't use an overall Europe map because then it would be difficult to find reference points for each city to the next. I believe each city is positioned accurately.. (besides Copenhagen. I don't know if Copenhagen existed in this time period, I just REALLY wanted to add it to the game.)

    What are doing for units?

Like I said, I was going to get to that in time with some help, but I'd rather figure out the mapping and such first. I don't know how to do that but I plan to try and give each faction balanced units.

I know how hard it is to get started on a mapping mod project, and it looks like you've really dived in and done some nice work, so +rep for that. As for adding garrisons in rebel settlements, what you'll need to do is go the the 'characters' tab in the Geomod tool, and create rebel characters with armies, and then assign their x and y coordinates as those of the city you wish them to defend. If historical accuracy isn't your main goal, I won't nitpick a whole lot with your map, but if you need some ideas for those areas you haven't finished yet, you can check out my mod as that area is mostly done in mine. Anyways, I wish you luck and happy modding!

Thanks a lot knin. I'm going to find a map for those areas but I just needed a break. Do you have any good ideas for me?

I'll give you some maps to help get you started.

    Shaddadid Armenia
    1100's

    Rus' Principalities
    1054-1132

    Hungary
    1038

    Poland
    1102-1138

And you can also check out my mod's thread, starting here to find what I've done with those areas. (There's a really good map of Anatolia in there somewhere also)

I think Lyon is a little too far east, and Orleans is a little too south.

Lyon should also go more to the south, it's not that close to Dijon. Orleons is not direcly south of Paris I thought, it needs to go a bit more to the west

what would the city on the right of rome be ? it can't be seen clearly ...if it's Bari it's really high (it should be more or less at the same height of napoli..*idea* why not change naples name to napoli ?) and it should be a port as it's coastal..

Well, my opinion on that is no. Why? I don't want again strange Russian ,hungarian, bulgarian and muslim settlements names.

    but they're not "strange" ...they're the actual-historical names...anyway , i guess it's up to the mod's creator

I personally think that there should be one point of view for the names. In this case the english one. And don't forget that a settlement's name is different in every language.

then you would have to do research of the local name of the settlement as in some cases it's different from the name it has in the rest of the country. I would stick to the English names

depends on the timeframe and on the amount of historical-cultural realism one wants...

don't think that one wouldn't understand that "roma" is rome ,"napoli" naples ,"athinai" athens ,"beograd" belgrad and so on...anyway ,i guess it's subjective ...personally i'd like the real names..

learning by playing makes a good - fun "educational" way

Okay guys, personally I don't care what the names are, but I definitely don't have time to go find a translation for each city name
When I started a campaign to test Scandinavia, I realized I added so many regions that the rebels win upon game start. I had to change the win conditions for them...
Anyway, later I'll post an update with pics from Scandinavia. Thanks for telling me about Lyons and Orleans, by the way. +rep to you.
"Bari" isn't Russian, Hungarian, etc., it's Italian.

I don't know how to quote an edit, so:

    "Call it Mini Total War

Because its a small map with really small regions (scale is small xD). "
    IZob

I actually like the sound of that... I'll consider it. I like the small scale because it's some pretty intense action. It makes for better wars that are longer and realistic - in reality, France didn't get started and die 30 years later due to Spain, HRE, England, and Denmark - as in Vanilla they all invade. Instead, in my mod, France is somewhat of a superpower, which is more historically accurate. They, overall, defeated England in the Hundred Years War.

Yeah, I will. It's hard to find a point on the map for some cities but I think I just messed up there. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
