Yes its part of the Battle of the Bulge. You will find big articles of heroic american defense of this ridge and that village, but this part has very few articles. You must dig deeper to the experts.

(Actually the photo is wrongly attached to Elsenborn Ridge. ).

Well from what I can gather that is know as the battle of Elseborn Ridge.. if you want to know the name of the nearby villages, then maybe Hofen? Monchau? Rocherath-Krinkelt?

I'm more interested in the Mountains/Hills, which give the local region their name because in winter it fell from heaven on them.

Its the "Breakthrough at Schnee Eifel" (also called 'Cannae at Schnee Eifel').
The mass of the 106th US Division ( 422th Regiment and 423th Regiment) had been encircled by the 18th Volksgrenadier Division and the 62 Volksgrenadier Division at the 17 December and surrendered at the 19 December 1944.
7000-9000 GIs became POWS.

Flinn was nearest with Elsenborn Ridge, to which the picture is wrongly connected by wikipedia.
So its Flinn's turn.

It's the Piave indeed. There's a pretty famous song about that battle, very moving.. though of course songs rarely depict the truth
