I repped the general but how was anyone supposed to guess this from a video game screenshot?

It's a distinct scenario battle from an Age of Empires 2 campaign, you can think of them as historical battles in Medieval 2

    Sure.
Though the though occurs that a gamer who has played AoE2 can guess this but if we had here a bona fide specialist of military history who doesn't play video game he wouldn't be able to guess it.

I think Age of Empires 2 is appropriate here, aren't video games an art from after all? Especially the most famous RTS of all time

I think it was appropriate, especially since it was guessed so quickly

I can barely see it but, is the obvious answer Embabeh?

Hmm, difficult to give a hint. This battle is known by two different names. One of which is quite famous IMHO. The scene in the picture though, refers to the other, less well known, place/name.

    Gah you disappoint me!

The picture shows soldiers in retreat towards a river bank on the first day of battle (Those steam ferries were used to drop them off there originally). Their side would succesfully counterattack the next day. It was the bloodiest battle in the conflict up to that point. Now don't force me to tell you the link with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
