Thanks, guys! I also did my small part erasing debts! Next one is part of the Napoleonic wars, but no Catholic navy was involved:\

I'm going to guess Dardanelles, 1807?

You found the British and you are very close to the year, but no Ottomans were involved.
As an extra hint, the engagement occurred in the Baltic Sea and resulted into a British victory.

Nope. It took place near what is now an Estonian port and the destroyed ship had the name of a Russian prince (not sure whose, but he probably ruled in Kiev).

No it's the naval action of 22 August 1808, English and Swedes vs the Russians. The Russians lost the Vsevolod, which is named after a Russian Prince who ruled Kiev.

Correct! One of the few engagements of the often overlooked Russian-British war during the Napoleonic conflict.

You are indeed correct.. I seemed to have been mistaking when agreeing with Abdul's guess... I stand corrected. Good catch.

Thanks, I couldn't quite figure out for a while. I guessed it might of been Syracuse but forgot about the Athenian defeat there.

    @ General Brewster:
I think you should post a second image of the battle in question if you can find one, as the image you posted does not show any troops to be identified, nor does it show any unique landscape features.

I do get a trench warfare vibe, however, and if it wasn't for the dry ground I would also get a Flanders vibe due to the rolling hills in the background.
These are hardly enough to guess the battle.

I think there's a pretty big hint seven posts up that'll get you into the proper direction. You are pretty close in your analogy as well.

Well yes, with the name of the painter it's quite easy: The Assault On Messines Ridge - Flanders, 1917. Another battle around Ypres. I'm sure Mak must have found it.
