But you are absolutely correct. The founder of the Safavids (and basically of the state that evolved eventually into the modern Iranian Republic) crushed the founder of the Bukhara Khanate. It was a major Persian victory, an indirect blow to the Ottomans and a decisive step for th demarcation of the region until the 19th century.

The picture is highly symbolic, suggesting the forces of the "Christian West" uniting to defeat the godless Communists in holy war. (The mentality of the painter almost makes one think it would have been better if they lost). Anyway, this and the equipment used puts it just after WWI.
