    Default Some questions

    Hello there,

I am new on this forum and I just started using the SPQR mod a few hours ago, so I have a few questions about the mod. I hope you guys can help!

First of all, I've noticed ingame that the recruitment of 1 unit should take "0" turns. Than how do I obtain my units without end turning?

I also noticed in the "help for first 15 turns" - thread that you can recruit generals. It says at turn 11:
" - recruit general and five hestati in capua". How do I recruit generals?

I also read some stuff about legions. Legions have roman numbers now. The house rules say that you may not use the number of a defeated legion again. How does that work, that legion stuff with the numbers?

People also speak about different goals to reach, to achieve Marius' reforms. What goals?

I've noticed that the recruitment system in SPQR is overall a bit different from the vanilla game. Can someone give me the differences and some explanation? Also maybe an overview from all the changes in SPQR in comparison with the vanilla game. I can't find something like that on this forum.

Hope you can help. I'm very sorry for some poor english, I'm Dutch.

Hey, much fun that you decided to try SPQR and registered solemnly to ask a question in this forum. You are very welcome, and keep asking if there's more stuff you wonder about

First of all, about the recruitment, the 0 turns, means that you can recruit many units at the same time, however they are recruited immediatly when you press end turn. If it was 1-turn recruitment, it would have meant that you could only recruit 1 unit each turn, so recruiting say 9 units would take 9 turns, but now you can recruit as many as the queue allows each turn

Second, about recruiting generals. The general is a unit of itself in the recruitment window, I think it is called Roman Tribune if you hoover with the mouse over it. If i recall correctly, you need a certain level of government building to be able to recruit it though.

About the roman numbered legions, the legions don't get numbers until after the Marius Reform. Until then you can use the legions as you wish. I however still decide to number them and keep track of them myself in notepad so i know who is commanding which legion.

The Marius reforms shouldn't be too obvious for you, so I won't disclose too many spoilers about it. There are people who have described how they got it here on the forum though. But I can tell you that play the game at your own pace, and conquer Carthage

There are too many changes from vanilla to SPQR to mention, but if there are more specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is a big and friendly community that helps out!
    Have fun playing SPQR

    Thank you very much!

That makes everything clear to me for now. I'll start playing a bit for now, and follow the 15-turns guide on this forum. Thanks for your help!

Or you could use the traide for generals to keep track of what polybian legion has what number. Sulla implemented a system that if you put a general in a city and leave him there for one turn he will get a trait that is linked to the cities number. Legio I, II, III, ... This way you will be able to use them as numbered legions and know to which city thy belong.

How do I get that system?

    Yes, very true Hesus!
However, I also keep track of the generals of my legions in notepad to remember how long each general has served in the field. I don't let my generals serve more than 20 years before retiring them in a city, in order to avoid too many rebellions.

Any family member or general that remains in a city marked with "Legio" will get an ancillary saying which legion he is commanding, and it also gives a small buff to morale. You can drag and drop these ancillaries between characters. Only one per town is allowed by the game. This works for all kinds of ancillaries. If a character holding this ancillary dies, then the first character which again spends an end turn in said town will get it anew.
