    Default Population and taxes

    Hello,

I have a question about population and taxes relation:

example is 2 cities - both LOW tax rate:

    Antioch - 23000 population - income from taxes= 580
    Nicea - 8900 population - income from taxes= 630

How come? Does the game actually get into account population boom, meaning young population does not pay taxes?

    Thanx for answers,

    Greetings,

    Smeto

Wouldnt that only increase the 'trade income'? I mean, taxes usually depend on how many persons pay them.

Is this total income or just tax income, because there is a difference.

I would put my best bet on characters in one of the city's affecting taxes.

according to the building mechanics file for every 1 person in a city you get 0.7 florins from him. so 10000 would get you 7000. This is not what i see in game though.

Yes you're right! I thought it was about total income. Sorry.

Do you have any family members stationed in either city? They can affect the amount of taxes your city brings in.

I would have to agree with some of the other guys that mentioned it, must be the governors traits that are affecting the amount. It can really be beneficial if you make sure you have your best governors in your biggest cities to maximize income. Some have tax specific traits, along with farming, mining specific traits. It can help to try and marry these up to settlements where they would best be used, by viewing the settlement detail icon and putting the governors into the right places. Can take a bit of time and effort but the results are worth doing it.

If you could put David Cameron in charge of one of the settlements, I am sure you could get plenty of tax out of it!.

I am talking JUST about tax income, i am aware trade income is hard to compare based on population, but when talking about taxes, population should be major factor should be not? And about generals, antioch has governor and nicea has not, but governors have only little effect on taxes in my opinion, nonetheless, nicea does not have one...

I removed governor from antioch, there was some changes, but minor results:

in city details tax income only:
    nicea: 9300 pop = 830
    antioch: 26000 pop = 760

about population boom, i was maxing population growth in antioch, meaning it was 6% per turn until huge city, are you sure the game does not take into account "young people dont pay taxes"? If not, i am lost what is causing this...

Is it something to do with corruption in the bigger cities? Ie the bigger the population the higher the corruption and waste.

Not sure what faction you are but is it to do with distance to capital?

Is the game complicated enough to factor in the relationships between farming, mining, trade and taxes? If the citizens aren't trading or mining or harvesting they have less personal income and therefore wouldn't be paying as much in taxes.

Taxes are based on the population size(when they aren't doing weird things like in the OP). There isn't any correlation between increasing trade income and taxation.
