New to modding

I want to do a new units for Russian Empire. I am new to modding and have some questions.
1. What programms do I need.
2. Do I have to replace the already existing units or there will be a new unit card?
3. Will I be able to play normal Etw again or I will have to reinstall it. Or there will be 2 copys.

Can it just be like that: 1. I do new clothes in the autodesk. 2. Import it to the copy of normal Etw. 3. I can play modded and unmodded version easily.
