Turn off your Mic first

Saw this today on the Irish news today, Independent TD ( Politician ) Mick Wallace had forgotten to turn off his microphone before engaging with 2 other politicians about how fat and badly dressed another politician was. His words were played aloud for everyone within the chambers and viewing live to hear.

One of those situations where you say something and everyone turns and looks at you and you think " Crap did I just say that out loud "

Mick Wallace has said he is very sorry for the offence caused to one of his Dáil colleagues after calling her 'Miss Piggy'.

Ms Mitchell O'Connor said the incident represents a type of casual sexism which is unacceptable.

Lol @ the women bringing sexism into play. And "miss piggy" was sort of asking for comments like that by driving in like that.

Exactly if it had of been a man he would have said something too and you can`t say " Oh he only said it because I am a man "

True I don`t know how she missed all of those steps must have done murder to the suspension.

He called her fat, which isn't nice, but not sexist
In the UK we have a couple of politicians, Eric Pickles and John Prescott notably, who the media make fat jibes at all the time
No one suggests that is sexist

You cant punish people for saying things privately. Its his fault he forgot to turn off his mic but otherwise comments like these go unheard of all the time by everyone, politician or not.

I completely agree with what you are saying he raised a good point himself when he brought up putting secret microphones one people. I`m guilty of hailing a bit of abuse at the odd politician myself when they come on the TV screen/ What he did say was cruel but not sexist we have had women in Dail Eireann since the earliest days of free Irish politicts in the government of 1918 and then in the real government of 1921 and we see all the women in the video acting as if they are un wanted and unwelcome there.

A private conversation about a woman, a very common thing to have, I hear. While what he said is by no means nice I don't think it deserves as much coverage as its getting, if any. Okay, a guy insulted a woman in front of people. Big deal, happens all the time. Not to say the woman is entirely in the right either, playing the sexism card. Not everything needs to be brought down to gender, you can insult a member of the opposite gender without it being "sexist".
