    Default Trait Gained Guide

I've moved on to other projects and won't be updating this guide further. If you feel you can improve upon it then feel free to do so.

I'm hoping you can help me put together a guide to traits gained.
I'm looking for the 1) trait gained and effect 2) what cause(d) it.

Traits are positive or negative bonuses that generals and Agents either start with or gain over the course of the game.

Each trait has one or more triggers. When conditions occur such that a trigger is activated, there is a percentage chance, which may differ for each trigger, then a general or Agent will gain the trait in question. A general or Agent may be exposed to the same trigger multiple times before gaining the trait in question due to the percentage chance.

Most traits occur in a series of increasing effect. Repeatedly gaining the same trait will cause the existing level of that trait to increase to the next level in the series until it reaches its maximum.

Trait Gained S2 () denotes threshhold level

Courageous and Heroic are both upgrades of the Brave trait (i.e. they give a better bonus and replace the previous trait). I got War is Slaughter once after a very bloody battle involve huge casualties on both sides. I think Enjoys food might be connected to Rice Exchanges (and possibly other buildings in the same chain). I can confirm that Sake Dens lead to "An Eye for Women" and the traits that build off of it.

My daimyo got impolite after I lost a lot of honor due to allies declaring war on other allies.

    - An eye for women: -1% movement. I believe it is "gained" after a few turns of garrisoning in any castle, perhaps with Sake Den inside.

    - Devoted: +1 loyalty. It's unclear how to achieve this but my generals almost always got it when garrisoning in a castle (no idea about what constructions are).

    - Brave? My generals often got it after a few auto-resolved battles, decisive wins. I did not even need to actually control the general to do personal fighting. Thus, I think it's up to the number of kills (which auto-resolved battles could do better than us human players).

    - There is a trait that increase loot by 10%. I forgot the name. My Oda Nobunaga got it after about 3 bloody loots

War is Slaughter gives the general a "Instills Fear" ability on his bodyguard unit I believe.

Anyone that's gained these traits or others could you let me know what caused it. I'm pretty low on causes at this point.

Brave> +1 morale for all units under this man's command. This man has a reputation for going into harm's way
Courageous> +2 morale for all units under this man's command. This man's name is a byword for honest courage in battle.

After one battle i had my Daymo and a general gain brave trait and a 3rd general that already had Brave gained Courageous, they were all in diferent attacking stacks and i used both general to charge archers and the daymo to kill routing troops and all 3 got exp chaveron after the battle. So maybe is related to exp gained after battle by the general unit

Can you explain this further I don't normally loot. I just tried looting with Oda Nobuhide after looting 9 provinces still no trait.

    I'm sorry. I recalled incorrectly

Actually, it's called Fond of Gold ("If it can be found, it can be liberated"), which +1 morale to all units. I got it after a loot so I think it's related to looting and amount of gold acquired (I often loot if it's about 10,000 koku or more).

I removed troops from Iyo one of my wealthier provinces and let it rebel. Kono would pop up take it and then I'd take it back and loot it. I did this 6 times with an average loot amount of 25,000 Koku each time before it gave me this trait. I'm not so sure if it's worth the effort just for +1 morale unless looting is your play style.

It makes me think there must be something more to it. Like the honour of your daimyo or the total amount you loot from all lootings. I think I'll just stick to my normal play style of not looting.

I think the true believer might have to do with being stationed in a castle town with a temple (or church maybe? I like my monks too much to convert....)

I was messing around with Oda to see if I could get any traits. I got peacable. I think I'm right but I could use verification.

I was looting and withdrawing from battles ruining oda nobuhide's honour and then I declared peace with Saito so I'm assuming declaring peace with Saito is how I got the peacable trait is that correct?

also impolite -20 to diplomatic relations and peacable +10 to diplomatic relations didn't seem to be showing up in my diplomat standing with other clans so are they both bugged?

Update: I'm having a hard time getting traits by having my generals sit in the castletowns but I'll keep trying. On one note I found out a little more about ninjas.

I had a ninja just assassinate. I wounded 5 and assassinated 22 to get him to rank 6. After he was almost maxed out he got the trait
Delight In Killing>+3% to assassination success chance. Killing is one thing, but this killer drools as he works.

Playing as hattori I got the nanban trade message in 1554. With Bingo province being my furthest west province, if that makes any difference.

I'm pretty sure that the general doesn't need to be inside a castle to become "devoted". I keep mine usually outside but I believe they still occasionally get the trait.

Do you happen to know what caused your general's to get the devoted trait. I know I've had generals inside castletown's that got it but I don't know much beyond that.

Could it be proximity to the Daimyo? It's just a guess, though. I'll have to watch out when it happens again.

Peaceable - I only see my Daimyo receive this trait after I accept a peace treaty when the ai proposes it during their turn. Does not happen every time so there may be mitigating factors.

This is supposed to add +10 to diplomatic relations but it is non-functional like all other diplomatic retinues and traits.

    Edit: Consider yourself verified wealthmonger.

My Thanks to old_dude and others that have contributed.

I've started a Bug thread and added the impolite and peacable traits to it. Hopefully they'll fix them.
