i was banned by an admin today from a BFBC2 server.

when i go to their forums to appeal the ban, they reply with this:

my question is, is it possible for other people in the past that were using the ip address i'm using now to have been caught cheating and therefore banned, and their ip logged?

i have been reading about how DHCP servers 'recyle' and 'reassign' dynamic ip addresses when you stop using them.

Quite possible if you don't posess a static IP address, typically if you turn off your modem for an extended period of time another modem that has been switched on may be assigned your old address. When you rejoin the network by switching the modem back on a new ip can be assigned.

I believe you are going to struggle to convince a server admin to unban you, either try and force a new ip address (probably get rebanned for circumventing the ban) or play on a different server.

Banning by ip is really dumb. Try to find a server with sensible admin. Or write to them and educate them, I suppose.

The correct thing to note for banning a player is their CD key.

Its really the only tool that a privately hosted server has as they do not have access to CD keys or any other computer information.
