When you have one family member in a settlement he becomes the governor, that's logic. But if you have several family member in a settlement, you don't seem able to decide who the governor will be. So, my experience is, you put a second family member in a settlement which already has a governor with good traits for that. However, often this "new" guy I mainly used for combat automatically get's to be governor! And he of cours has sucky traits for governing, so i often have to lower taxes by several levels! I tried different ways, first i thought that simply the latest guy to enter the settlement got the governmenting post, but after a while I figured that the oldest bastard got to be the governor! (But I am not sure about this however).

So is there a way to change the governor manually? This dosn't happen that often since it's quite stupid to have more than one family members in the same settlement, but when this occurs it's freaking irritating.

Try placing him outside the settlement, and the other one should be taking his place.
If it doesn“t work, and the original governor becomes governor again when he re-enters, then his governing traits are just too good (check the "traits" list) and the only thing you can do then is too send him away for good - like on a campaign or to a castle or something like that.

I think the governor is automatically the character with the most dread/chivalry, regardless of specific governor traits.

I tried the re-enter strategy, doesn't work. The theory about most chivalry/dread makes sence though, this often applies to the oldest family member. Of course the chivalry/dread is quite high since I used them alot in combat as said.

The governor of the city is the general inside it with the most authority points. Granted you can't see those points, but they exist.

As for changing the governor, that's impossible. The only way to choose a governor is to make sure he's alone in that city or castle, thus by default he will become governor.

Simply sending the guy outside, and then back inside has worked for me before...
I suppose it must have been because they both had the same amount of authority then.
