    Default Bachmann signs pledge to...

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/20...n-pornography/

Michele Bachmann was the first candidate to sign a pledge created by THE FAMiLY LEADER, an influential social-conservative group in Iowa. By signing the pledge Bachmann "vows" to "uphold the institution of marriage as only between one man and one woman" by committing herself to 14 specifics steps.

"– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE: The preface to the pledge reads, “Social protections…have been evaporating as we have collectively ‘debased the currency’ of marriage…in complete absence of empirical proof, that non-heterosexual inclination are genetically determined, irresistible and akin to innate traits like race, gender and eye color; as well as anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.” Footnote 8 reiterates this notion.
    – HOMOSEXUALITY IS LIKE POLYGAMY, ADULTERY, POLYANDRY: Vow 4 requires the candidate to pledge “Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage…through statutory, bureaucratic, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex.”
    – HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK: Footnote 4 claims that homosexuality causes shorter life expectancy and a higher probability of a long list of sexually transmitted diseases. The Leader has previously compared same-sex marriage to second-hand smoking.
    – SEX IS BETTER AFTER MARRIAGE: Vow 5 requires the candidate to support the notion that “married people enjoy better health, better sex.”
    – PORNOGRAPHY SHOULD BE BANNED: Vow 9 stipulates that the candidate must “support human protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy” and protect them from “seduction into promiscuity and all forms of pornography…and other types of coercion or stolen innocence.”
    – REJECT SHARIA ISLAM: Vow 11 requires the candidate to reject Sharia law."

There is the typical "Homosexuality is a choice" social conservatism and ban of sharia law, but...

"All forms of pornography" should be banned eh? That wont happen, it be funny if someone did manage pass laws to ban all porn. Imagine the backlash. Would it be just a ban of production/distribution or would possession be a crime too I wonder.

*All* forms of pornography... *all*, all Porn, Hentai and Yiff.... Illegal.

4chan users would be rioting in the streets.

    And in some cases, Daughters.
when the union's inspiration through the worker's blood shall run,
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?
but the union makes us strong.

Isn't this the pledge where it says that Black families were better off under slavery, then today?

*than single parent black families today.

Still...entirely stupid, unsympathetic, and outrageous thing to have in there. That part has since been taken off the list.

she can win Iowa. And that might allow her campaign to last a little longer. But ya, beyond that, not much of a chance for her to be nominated.

Yep imo 2012 comes down Pawlenty or Romney with Huntsman as an outside shot or VP spot.

The Christian right people of America have a good deal in common with the same Islamic fundamentalists that they denounce. People really wishing to create a society in the point outlined in the OP, would probably enjoy a life in a country like Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Yeah I remember all those Christian fundamentalists that detonated suicide vests and vehicle borne IEDs in the name of Jesus... or wait... I remember all those Christian fundamentalists that journeyed to Egypt to wage holy war against the Arabs there in defense of the Coptic Christians there... or wait what about that time when Christians took over some planes and plowed them into Mecca. Yeah, lots in common.

I can't stand anyone that is ultra religious, but Bachman and her goons are still far, far behind the likes of Islamic fundamentalists. Until these irritating types start waging holy wars and murdering people that don't believe in their stupid ideology then they don't have that much in common.

Their commonality comes in the ideals that they profess to be instilled and sustained in everyday society. The comparison here is obviously not 1 to 1, but still based on the ideals it can be made - fortunately these Christian right wingers do not resort to violence as a primary means to achieving their goals.

The whole neo-conservative movement is actually calling for things that would make our country look very similar to Pakistan.
With Tea Party conservatives and many Republicans balking at raising the debt ceiling, let me offer them an example of a nation that lives up to their ideals.

It has among the lowest tax burdens of any major country: fewer than 2 percent of the people pay any taxes. Government is limited, so that burdensome regulations never kill jobs. This society embraces traditional religious values and a conservative sensibility. Nobody minds school prayer, same-sex marriage isn’t imaginable, and criminals are never coddled. The budget priority is a strong military, the nation’s most respected institution. When generals decide on a policy for, say, Afghanistan, politicians defer to them. Citizens are deeply patriotic, and nobody burns flags.

So what is this Republican Eden, this Utopia?

    Why, it’s Pakistan.

That Sharia Law part seems to come out of no where. I guess the idea is to show as much bigotry as possible.

I think after George Bush that anyone who runs hardcore with a social conservative platform would not win any election unless everyone including democrats REALLY hates Obama. I know republicans really hate him but thats not enough.
