    Default Windows 7 Issues

I really enjoyed playing this game back on my Windows XP computer, but after I got a new one with Windows 7 I have had difficulty with EB. Downloaded, installed all ok. Then when I tried opening it; it simply wouldn't open or would open Rome Total War instead (vanilla). I tried uninstalling, as well as re-installing in different folders (Program Files, Program Files (x86) ) etc.

Which is all unfortunate, because this mod was absolutely great and I was looking forward to playing it on a computer which is much more powerful than previous. So, does anyone have any recommendation?

I am using Windows 7 with no problems, apart from the very occasional CTD. So I am not sure your problem is necessarily connected to Windows 7 at all.

Don't install EB into Program Files!

Please follow the Frequently encountered issues for any CTD's and other problems.

Concerning the loading of Vanilla instead EB:
    My EB shortcut doesn't work!

Sorry about that. A product of lacking experience with creating installers, I made a mistake when creating the shortcuts that start EB 1.2.
    • Use the Trivial Script to start EB instead of the start menu shortcut. You need to have installed this as part of EB 1.1.
    • Modify the shortcut target. Move the end quote from the end of the line to directly after RomeTW.exe and it should work (goes for both the new shortcuts in 1.2). For instance, instead of "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -show_err -ne" it should be "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne.

And about more powerful PCs...RTW can't handle this power.

Not quite sure what you're getting at here? The two shortcuts look identical?

Rome Total War is installed on Program Files, so how am I supposed to get around this? I mean, I installed outside of it and it comes up with

"Execution of Command 'RomeTW.exe - mod:eb - show_error ' failed (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)"

which is probably to do with me installing it in different places. Any ideas?

EDIT: uninstalled everything, could someone give me a step-by-step walk through on how to successfully install it correctly this time, so there are no errors. Because I'm a spaz.

Finally got it to work by installing it correctly in Program Files. Still don't have a clue what you're talking about regarding shortcuts.

Look at the " in the shortcut, the last one is at a wrong place. They are marked with red.

Read How to install EB and see if you find any mistakes you could have made.

Otherwise create a new shortcut to Rome-TW.exe and edit the target line by adding -mod:eb -show_err -ne

    Any minimods installed?

    Okay, I'll try that, mate.

No minimods installed, no. Was, after I sort it out, install megamod-thingy-ma-bober. Forgot it's name.

This is frustrating, becouse it worked perfectly on old OS, but now on Win7 it doesn't...

Anyway, I'll try those a go!

EDIT: Yup, I made no mistakes in the install, and the new shortcut didn't work. I'm going to try installing it all again...
EDIT: Nope, still not working Any thoughts?

    Vanilla works?
Install RTW+EB outside Program Files, disable UAC, disable protection software.

And please run validateinstallation.bat found in your RTW folder and post your results here.

This strongly indicates that your installation is bugged. There can be several reasons for this

Start by redownloading the installer (best use torrent, second option is our ftp-server)
Check that Vanilla RTW loads up fine and install 1.1 according to the linked guide, start EB to be sure everything worked fine. You might want to disable UAC and protection software during the installation.
This should work fine, if not there is a problem with your OS (or individual system).
Afterwards continue with 1.2 and the fixes.
