Alright, I'm pretty irritated at how many crashes this game is susceptible to. I've been playing Empire for a while now and occasionally a save gets corrupted and results in me having to reinstall everything because for some reason when one save gets corrupted, all the other saves do not work either and campaigns refuse to start. It apparently also carries over to Napoleon, I bought Napoleon on Steam a few days ago, but lately I've been playing Empire and the old familiar corrupt save issue occurs on my campaign in empire. So I decide I don't feel like screwing around with it today so I decide to start up Napoleon and see what its all about, I play it for the first time and...a crash when I try to load the tutorial campaign.

I really can't stand these crashes, I paid for both games and I can't enjoy either one because anytime I do get the game to work fine it is only a matter of time before a save gets corrupted and ruins everything.

Oh and even the Shogun 2 demo won't play without crashing...apparently when one total war game refuses to load all the others follow suit.

Before it is asked, I have done everything, deleted mods, deleted scripts, I use gamebooster religiously, verified the game caches for both games, still I get CTDs. I know reinstalling will fix the issue but frankly I'm tired of reinstalling the game every time I get a corrupt save because it happens way too often.

For corrupt saves go back to one that works or start a new campaign. Reinstalling solves nothing at that point.

    Post your dxdiag.

You don't understand, once one of my saves is corrupted, none of the other saves work either. Then I am unable to start a campaign or a battle. I don't even know if it's save corruption. Somehow it even carries over to the other Total War games as I said before. I hadn't even touched Napoleon and yet I got a CTD when I tried to start a campaign or battle.

How much background noise do you have going on whie playing?

Again...fully updated. The background noise is probably only because one of my speakers has a shoddy wire.

Background noise, I mean things like autoupdaters, virus scans, MSI mIRC, iTunes, YouTube, Facebook, and some I probably have not heard of yet.

Have you tried Game Booster in Game Mode to cut down on some of this? Corruptd saves can happen if one of them decides to write to disc at the same time as the game and Windows is still very poor at prioritizing writes to disc.

Not to be a prick but did you read the first post? I use gamebooster, and AVG does run in my background but thats about it when gamebooster is on.

Yeah, I read it a cpouple of days ago and did not reread it.

    Game ctds =

    1. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238484
    2. AMD graphics drivers are up to 11.6.
    3. Do you have the profiles for the crossfire?
    4. RealTek sound drivers are two years old and need to be updated at www.realtek.com.tw.
    5. After updating the graphics drivers, have you disabled the ATIHDMI sound drivers in Device Manager?
    6. When was the last ime you ran Windows Update manually and installed all software options?

Corrupted saves = all the above just might help.

I honestly don't understand how this can happen at such a frequency and have no real fix. I played Empire again last night (after having to reinstall everything of course), and then I load it up this morning...the only 2 saves I have, an auto save and a campaign save. Corrupted. I'm so fed up with this, I search various forums to see tons of people suffering from the same issue and it baffles me how nobody can really truly come up with a solution.

The only ways I know to slow down bad saves are, not in any particular order, fast cpu, good dedicated graphics card, at least 4gb ram, 64bit OS up to date, massive amounts of free harddisc space defragged, and anything not game related turn off by any means.

I appreciate you trying to help, but I have done all of the aforementioned things in this thread. My rig is also perfectly capable of handling this game. I honestly don't understand what the problem is, it's a pain in the ass and a waste of time to keep reinstalling this game when it shouldn't be having this problem in the first place. I paid for Empire and Napoleon, I enjoy both games a good deal but when I have to spend hours to download and install only to have a play time of 6 or 7 hours before it corrupts again is ridiculous. The game has been out for two years and despite several patches they still have been unable to fix this issue, not to mention the issue is present in other Total War games, it's asinine.

To qualify what I posted, I have had and played MTW/VI, RTW/BI, M2TW/Kingdoms, and Empire and zero corrupted saves and I have done it with some pretty marginal computers. I built this one to play Empire on two years ago and zero corrupted saves from any of them and for this computer, you can add Shogun2 with no corrupted saves. Aint fancy but it will play Empire on high and can handle Shogun2 on dx10.

I am getting CTD in campaign, at AI's turn. Is there a way to find out what the AI is doing to make it crash? Is there a log file this would register in? The Windows event manager just says error with NTW, and some numbers, nothing I can understand. Please help!

Could you play the game before installing the mod?
