Sorry if this has been posted already but i just cme across it and thought yall might wanna hear it.

Looks like the Vin Diesel Hannibal movie might be a trilogy and allegedly he wants to do it in Punic. From all that I've read he's gung ho about it and he wants to make it as authentic as possible. Of course the jury is still out but it looks like it has the possibility to be great, that is if they actually make it(them).

judging by vin's performance in Find me Guilty, i think this has more of a chance than i previously thought

what? is Vin Diesel turning into one of those "used to be action actors now i'm a real actor" actors? much like Bruce Willis..who is now, one of my favorite actors. If so, and if he actually makes 3 movies in "punic" then that would be awesome. assuming it's accurate.

If it's a trilogy, it means they would not rush through things, and it might turn into something better.

It remains to be seen how he does it. I believe it is rather ignorant to outright condemn it when we are uncertain of how it might turn out. Many I've spoken to seem to feel that when hes left to a setting he enjoys (specifically, his role in Pitch black, and um..Riddick), he does beter than when hes in something else. Being a Geek of D&D, he might be inclined to like history, and might do a better role than is expected.

I would rather go for a more charismatic and less manly-frontlines individual.

I believe it was said here, but what would be great is if in the trilogy, for the last part (probably after Zama? Maybe during and after), if they used Saladin from Kingdom of Heaven.

Minus the fact he is of middle eastern and african descent and there is no such thing as "spain" or spanish accents yet?

Phoenicians are of the same genetic link that arabs had. Semitic. Also, the ethnicity seems to match, as at the time, those along the mediterranean could have similiar facial featurs.

Second Punic war, obviously. Unless my history is incorrect (and I know it isn't ), I don't believe Hannibal fought in the 1st and 3rd Punic Wars.

The parts are probably going to be

1: The Beginning and Campaign in Spain, ending with a view of the Alps
2: Crossing the Alps and the campaign in Italy (Trebia, Cannae, Metaurus, etc)
    3. Scipio's reconquest, Battle of Zama, and the exile of Hanibal

carthaginians werent of middle eastern descent tho
they were semitic people with probably light olive tan colored skin and curly hair (look at statues of him- he has curly hair)
so i think he was more "white" than "arab"
and he was of a noble family so i imagine his "blood would have been pure" so the african descent thing doesnt completely add up

there was still a region that was spain or iberia

there is a huge difference between arabs and what hannibal would have been
besides the guy from KoH is old as hell

Semitic refers to people who came from the ancient levant, that is to say, Israel and Lebanon. Middle eastern. On top of that, the phoenicians who settled carthage had long intermarried with the local libyans, who are north african.

No, Semetic refers to poeple of the same genetic makeup as the SUMERIANS(hence "Semetic") Meaning, everybody from modern Iraq to the Levant all the way down to Yemen was(or is) a semetic person.(excluding the immirgants from other lands i.e Persia, Greece, Lydia, ect)What on earth made you think Semetic referd only to the Levant!?

As for this movie(s) Vin is pretty good actor when the script provides him with the chance to be. Now as a director we have yet to see but aslong as he: 1.grows some hiar for the role 2.gets a good supporting cast and 3.accurate costums and armor(i.e no lorica segmentata for the Romans)this could be a good trilogy.

It still would bother me if Hannibal ends up with a Spanish accent. It just doesn't seem right to me...

What would you prefer a British accent? I still remember a post about RTW complaining about the voice over having too american an accent and not a 'real' roman accent...a british one. I dont think the accent is going to matter much unless Hannibal ends up sounding like a southern california surfer. Its nice to see though Vin is doing this much research into the project maybe there is some hope for it but I do hope it doesnt turn into a typical good vs evil type movie since neither Rome or Carthage could be classified as either.

Yeah right Antonio Banderas is not so great. Who has really impressed me though is Eric Bana (except in the Hulk) but Munich made up for that, and I think he can make a great Hannibal. If Vin Diesel can actually pull it off and be a serious actor and make a triology as The Russian has stated then I will change my opinion of Diesel's horrible action films.
