Default Peasant Crossbowmen same firing range as Norse archers?

Fought a battle against HRE in my denmark campaign just now where the HRE had only 1 unit of crossbowmen but I had 2 units of norse archers in the fight and as soon as my archers got within range, the crossbowmen also opened fire on my archers as well.

If this is the case, I can only imagine the range upgraded crossbowmen have. :/

Norse archers have poor quality bows, so they have short range. I think Turkish archers and English longbowmen have a much greater range.

Longbow's are the ultimate ranged unit as the timurids just discovered .

I stuck my main assault stack on a cliff and took out the entire timurid nation in 1 battle .

My longbows range was so long that they were firing before the elephant artillery was in range plus i had 3 ballistas of my own on the cliff them 3 plus 12 longbow units and 5 units of heavy spears .

Timurids never stood a fighting chance they were having arrows pored onto there heads from the moment the match started i massacared some 23000 timurids for the loss of less then 200 of my own .

My archers and bal's ran out of ammo but by that point they only had about 6000 men left including men still to come onto the field.

They had to run uphill past routing units over mountains of there own dead just to reach a tiny little gap allowing men higher up the hill defended by 5 fresh and very encouraged units of heavy spear infantry with 7 chevrons each they got slaughtered .

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

The Norse Archers use bows that are supposed to withstand the cold, ever-shifting climate of the Norselands, with the downside that they lack in range.
But the range of Norse Archers in the game is pretty much the same as the standard range of bows and crossbows alike in the game - missile units with longer range than usual have it written in their "abilities at glance".

There are only two or three different ranges for bows.

That's Correct. There are only two ranges for archers: 120 and 160. Therefore, Longbowman has the same range as Mongol Infantry, for example. And Elephants obviously outrange all archers, subject to any AI stupidity:

    Elephant Artillery: 350
    Musketeer, Camel Gunner: 180
Elite Archers (Retinue Longbowman, Janissary Archer, Adventurier, Pavisse Crossbowman, Mongol Infantry): 160
Normal Archers (Peasant Archer, Crossbow Militia, Norse Archers): 120
    Horse Archers (all types): 120
Arquebusier, gunners on non-artillery elephant: 120
    Hand Gunners: 95
    Reiters: 45

The ultimate ranged unit you can make is the Camel Gunner, of course.

Where do Mounted Thunder Braves fit in?

IIRC they wield muskets, so 180. Easy way to see would be them outranging bows, as the arquebus has the same range as the standard bow

Mounted Thunder Braves and Dragoons are both mounted musketeers, so their range is 180. The Dragoon outclasses the camel gunner, but in the original game, the Camel Gunner was the top ranged unit.
