"Salve, one and all, patrician or plebeian, to I, Tiberius Ambrosius Varus's, Domvs. As you can see, I'm still in my bed-chamber but don't you worry, I'll be out of here shortly. So, you wish to hear of my history? Well, I got my start learning from a Greek tutor. He taught me all the classics and many other interesting subjects. I then joined the army and served in Northern Italia. When those damnable barbarians attacked, I served with great heroism. As a 'reward' for my service, I was sent to explore the world. I landed on many a strange land but, at last, I came home after nearly a decade away. I was soon elected to the role of senator by the plebeians but due to an unfortunate family tragedy, I have been unable to appear for at least a year now. However, I am back in the eternal city, so this calls for a celebration. I will have my slave prepare the invitations and than I shall send them out to all of you. Vale!"
Tiberius smiles and gets ready for the day. After eating a light breakfast, he takes a leisurely stroll around Rome but not before instructing the servants to take care of any visitors who come by.
Here is a portrait of Tiberius speaking before the senate.
The Family Tree of the Ambrosius Family (Recently):
Aulus Ambrosius Barbatus (deceased at age 57) - Lucia Cornelia Alba (56)
Their Children: Tiberius (37), Lucien (33), Appia (22 and unmarried. Tiberius is helping her try and find a good match.), and Manius (20 and unemployed. Thinking of joining the army.) (The reason for the age ranges are that Aulus was deployed in the military on several occasions due to various crises.)
Sadly, due to the death of Aulus so unexpectedly, Tiberius has been placed in the care of his mother, Lucia, and his sister, Appia, and brother Manius due to their young age.
History of Tiberius Ambrosius Varus:
Being born the first son of Aulus and Lucia Ambrosius, both from prominent patrician houses, Tiberius was well treated and looked after as a boy. Most would considered his upbringing pampered. However, despite being raised in complete wealth, Tiberius always tried to be helpful and kind to the slaves of the household. Aulus hired a Greek tutor from Athens named Alexander after the famous general. Alexander taught Tiberius everything from Socrates to the religious stories of how Rome was founded. Alexander also taught Tiberius the history of Greece and how powerful the city-states were. Unbeknownst to Alexander, the stories of Greek might made Tiberius hate and fear the Greeks for he feared that they might return to power and attempt to crush Rome. He learned to hate them because of how most Greeks looked at Romans. Even Alexander treated all Romans like they were inferior.
At last, when Tiberius reached the age of 17, he joined the military as a Tribune much to his chagrin. Despite being an officer, military life was hard. Tiberius fought many a battle with the marauding Gallic hordes from the north. After serving for six years, Tiberius was elected Tribune of the Soldiers for his Legio. It was while he was in command as the tribune that a brutal raid was staged by the Gauls. Looting and pillaging began in Northern Italy. Tiberius, along with his comrade, Lucius, also leading the Legio, planned a daring counter attack that payed off. The Gauls were surrounded by angered Roman soldiers and cut down. Every last one was slaughtered with prisoners being brutally executed. Tiberius and Lucius had both lead the charge rather vain gloriously and the resulting battle injured them greatly. Tiberius was shocked at how horrible battle was and could never speak of the event to anyone who had not been there or been in similar circumstances. Lucius was injured when a sword hacked through his leg almost severing it completely. Despite their injuries, both physical and mental, the two were acclaimed as war heroes. The senate wanted to know more of the world and thus ordered that Tiberius, a young, ambitious, and at times strange, war hero be sent to explore the world.
During the exploration, Tiberius landed on a strange island beyond Carthage where the people painted themselves with blue and worshiped trees and rivers. He also traveled to lands of every winter where the peoples' skin was white as the snow around them and their hair pale yellow. After traveling for more than eight years, Tiberius returned to Rome. However, in the time that he spent gone, Tiberius' father was wounded in a war and Tiberius' brother Lucien had been disinherited for a petty quarrel he had with Aulus. Due to all these family crises, Tiberius was unable to attend the Senate despite being elected as a senator. Within a year of receiving his grievous wound, Aulus Ambrosius died of a sickness contracted from his wound. Tiberius returned to Rome with his mother, sister, and sole brother in tow. He swore an oath before Jupiter's alter that he would always take care of his family no matter what even if it meant that he must forfeit all his wealth and status.
Political Beliefs:
Tiberius is still not entirely sure of how he should view the senate and the tribunate and plebeian assemblies and councils. He has been away from Rome for too long to really know what each group is for and against.
