    Default Crash in Battle

I just installed Rs 2 and the 2.1a patch. Everything went smooth I loaded to the campaign map and for the hell of it I went straight into a battle. I was Rome of course. The battle loaded well and as the armies march toward each other just 1 second after they clashed the game crashed. I did it 4 times to see maybe it wound't do it again. I think maybe it has to do with me copying the 1.2a patch files.

I get no error message. It just crashes to the desktop and Windows tell me the Rome total war has stopped working

    OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit
    RAM: 6 GB
    Video Card: Raddeon 5770
Processor: Intel Dual Core 2 - 3.33 GHZ

    Thank you

1.2a patch files? You mean 2.1a right?

OK, well first thing is try another faction. If that is OK, try Rome again without the immediate battle (so ignore Hannibal completely) and then try another battle after that point - shouldn't be hard to pick a fight as Rome, you should get a rebellion within 2/3 turns anyway. Failing that, try re-installing without the 2.1a patch and try the same battle, but as I recall it isn't compatible so you won't be able to try the same save in 2.0 as with 2.1a. Your specs seem OK, very similar to mine.

I remember during I was transferring the 2.1a patch files into the RSII directory I got this weird error Saying it cant find this sound file so It had to skip it. That was a weird error.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the crash.

If it was the mss32.dll it's fairly important.

I'm fairly sure we can't upload it as it's not been modified.

Alright well I tried a different faction and I got no crash. I played as the Selecuids and fought the Egyptians. Nothing crashed but maybe in the future it will.

I went back to play as Rome and I played another battle and it didn't crash. It just crashes on that first battle. I have a high end computer and 3 years of IT experience so I'm rattling my brain on why this is happening.

OK I re install the MOD this time not installing the 2.1a patch and no crashes. So I' am narrowing it down

This is how I have it installed on my computer.
    E:\Century X476 Backup\Rome Total War Mods\Roma Surrectum 2

I have it installed on a second hard drive not In my C:

I keep editing this reply as I do more testing. Well I'm playing perfectly well without the 2.1a patch. Still narrowing it down

CONFIRMATION: It only crashes when I install the 2.1a patch. If I do not install it nothing crashes at all. So Yea

The testing continues and now to find out why it crashes with the 2.1a patch

I'm going to disable everything in the background put things on low as possible. I can do battle with the camera zoomed out but if I zoom in to quickly or move around the battlefield at a low level it is a guarantee CTD

    I give up

    I can't figure it out

I loaded the latest SPQR mod to see if I get any performance issues and I don't. I was thinking it was my hardware which I'm pretty sure there is something about my computer that is causing RS II to crash

memory overload? If you use the program that makes RTW 4GB RAM compatible, then you'll see less of these errorless CTD

See my PM. Also, as regards Aero, I have a problem witht he game minimizing after the initial Orange/Black spalsh scrren that IS fixed by not using Aero. It's easy enough to switch to a windows7 basic before playing and then back to Aero afterwards.

I have a high end system too, quad core Athlon II with 8GB RAM, 64 bit, windows7 and had problems with 2.1a. works OK with aero disabled so I suspect there probably isn't a single absolute solution, just a bunch of solutions that work for various systems.

p.s. yes, I know, quad core makes no difference with RTW engine, I'm just mentioning it's high end

Thank you very much for that program. I will test it out the second I get home.
