come on, lord xenu freezes billions of unwanted aliens, flies them to earth in DC8s with rocket engines, puts them in volcanoes and blows them up with nuclear weapons, brainwashes their souls and sets them free upon the earth.

the ten commandments were brought back by a dude stuck on a mountain with nothing to eat and drink for 40 days and 40 nights and "talked" with a burning bush. besides, there were tons of "established" RELIGIONS before christianity and islam. greek, roman and egyptians and norsemen all had rich spiritiual lives before christianity, just to name a few
Prove it. The fact is, so much time has passed now - that neither you nor anyone else on Earth knows truely who originally perpetuated these myths.even so, christianity and islam are established RELIGIONS that were not founded by a drunk SCIENCE FICTION WRITER

you are asking me to prove that Christianity and Islam are religions? isn't it obvious? besides there was no such thing as science fiction writing back then
and if you dig on wikipedia, just hit some links in that article, you'll find Hubbard admitting that he was intoxicated and popping pills when he wrote about Xenu

you have to pay lots of money just to be a member, at least you had to before I dont know if it has stopped since it caused huge financial problems for the new recruits, not that the scientology leaders cared, but family and other people who understood how stupid scientology did.Originally Posted by TB666

Please explain, using valid evidence (ie, not biased by personal convictions or adherence to tradition) why this religion is any more ridiculous than any other.

The Evidence for both is pretty much equal in the sense of being none.
The Christian Jewish and Muslim deity for example, 'telling the sun to stop moving through the sky' as quoted in scripture.
(which is why many astronomers who claimed the earth went round the sun were called 'blasphemous' and silenced)
Has just as much proof as Xenu dropping hydrogen bombs into the volcano of Hawaii.
namely, none.
Personal feelings on it do not apply,
If two things have equal evidence supporting them (in these cases, none at all), both are just as likely.
well, first of all, it is founded by a science fiction writer, based on one of his science fiction booksOriginally Posted by KingOfTheIsles
second its about something that is so completely outrageous, even more so than the alleged deeds of jesus, that is just too laughable to take seriously

some of the stories in the bible are based on fictional works before the bible was written. noah's ark, for example, was derived from the tales of great floods that were widespread in babylonian and other cultures in the middle east. just because a religion is older doesn't mean it's more valid. they all have the same humble and kooky beginnings
Ehem.....

It isn't the views that I have a problem with. The fact that they demand money in order to learn more about their religion makes it a cult. People can believe whatever they want, but when stuff like that goes on, you know something is wrong.I'm afraid to say that any theists mocking scientology because of a wacky belief system are just hypocrites. It's fine to disagree with the tales of Scientology and believe in your own faith, but you cannot logically claim that any one religion (unless it has reproducable, scientific evidence supporting its claims) is more valid or true than another.

He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.
Yep, that is a valid criticism of Scientology, although people are free to spend their money in any way they like. I suppose some scientologists might equate the money paid with passing the church collection plate or other such voluntary contributions.
