nothing haha theres not anything good in it anymore everything else has surpassed it in every way
The mods
And also the fact that you can play it for many happy weeks and months. It just goes on and on, too many provinces and map is just beautiful. Those map based RTS games such as CIV 4, Europa Universalis,Hearts of Iron and Victoria can't come even close to RTW, they can't even clean it's shoes!!

KOSOVO IS SERBIA!!!
Under the proud patronage of the magnificent Tzar
After playing the game I now have a deeper interest in the Selucid empire/ Armenia/ Egypt/ Pontus/ Parthia/ Bactria and that whole area of the ancient middle east. So in that sense it has been a real eye opener for me history wise other than what I already knew before hand...who said gaming can't be educational...
Same here, before I played Rome I didnt give a donkeys pet rat about ancient times but I played it at a friends house, fell in love with it, and now I'm obbsessed with Roman history and warfare to the point where I plan on getting a tattoo of a Roman soldier on my 18th birthday next year![]()
the best thing was how the campaign map would actually shape the battlefields. If you fought next to a river, there would be a river on the battlefield etc. No other TW game after Rome has this
Cry God for Harry, England and Saint George!
Early Roman Bodyguards, the scourge of the Gauls
Rome got me interested in history.
Rome has the best time period.
The mods are astoundingly good.
The gameplay is more fun than any of the games up until Napoleon, and then I prefer Rome because of the faction diversity/lack of muskets.
the seleucids. after rome there has been no other faction who had all the best units from the other factions: elephants, legionairs, phalanxes, chariots. and horse archers are gay anyway :p
It represents the ancient battles better than any other game.
mods
Of course the mods.
The time period I believe is fascinating.
The simplicity of it, theres no tech tree or buildings spread out over the map that require individual attention ETC.
The mods, yes i meant to say it twice. IMO the mods have kept this game alive as long as it has. 4 total war games have been released since this and Rome is the one i play the most.
Mods...And that it renewed my interest in the ancient world.
