    Default Found a solution/Fix for cannot kingdoms.exe

    Hello everyone,

Recently I have downloaded the Stainless Steel mod version 6.3 and 6.4. The installation went fine, but whenever i ran setup.exe to configure and then start the mod I would get an error saying ''cannot find kingdoms.exe is Kingdoms.exe in your Medieval 2 Total War folder?''

I have looked around on the forums and I saw that alot of people have this same problem. I managed to find a solution for this problem, atleast for myself that is. This solution might work for you or it might not.

The fix is really easy, when I installed the stainless steel mod I installed it into a subfolder within my mod folder of Medieval 2 Total War. So I had it installed like this: D:\Medieval 2 Total War\Mods\StainlessSteel\SS6.3

The SS6.3 is the actual modfolder which contains all the mod files. The StainlessSteel folder is a folder I made myself which is pretty stupid of me.... I realised that other people might have done the same thing, without realising that this is incorrect.

So when you install this mod make sure that your mod folder directly contains the ss6.3 folder without any subfolders in between. So you're directory folder would look like this: D:\Medieval 2 Total War\Mods\SS6.3

As I have noted above this simple solution worked for me, I can start the mod now without getting the error stated above. I hope this helps some people to get their mod(s) running aswell.

Have fun with the Stainless Steel mod or any other mod you're trying to play.

    Hi Apocalypse11,
    thanks for your post

However there should be an easier solution:
Prompted by your post I moved my SS6.4 install out of its director in Medieval 2 Total War\Mods\ to the \Temp folder on the same drive. Running the SS_launcher afterwards gave me this:

Running SS_launcher again as asked by the message started SS6.4 just fine (without any further interaction by me). If this doesn't work automatically a browse dialog should enable you to select the location manually.

    Hey Bane,

Never thought about moving the mod folder to the temp folder lol. Still it might be usefull for some people if they still get the ''cannot find kingdoms.exe'' error.

    Thanks for your reply Bane.

I tried both of these suggestions and I still get the same "Cannot find kingdoms.exe"

Yo, dunno if I'm a little late or not but what you can do is
Step 1) go to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods
Step 2) Rename a lesser used Kingdoms mod, etc Britannia Campaign from british_isles to british_isles_originals
Step 3) Rename the stainless steel 6.3/6.4 to british_isles
Step 4) Launch the game with Steam Britannia campaign and stainless steel should launch.

    Hope this helps!!

Hello. I just got Windows 7 installed on my new computer, and I installed M2, and it worked, and I installed Kingdoms, and it worked, and I installed Stainless Steel 6.3, and it worked, and I installed Stainless Steel 6.4 and it didn't work. Can't find Kingdoms.exe. I clicked around and I made it work (although tempers were starting to flare).

What did the trick was changing the Compatibility Mode of SS_Launcher to Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Windows 7 is still less frustrating than Linux, however. Good luck making old games work on that.
