Can river battles be eliminated from the game?
If so, what is the quickest and easiest way to do so?

why would you want to eliminate river battles?

Probably because they are either buggy and/or incredibly easy.

Yes. The game is simply not up to simulating river crossing battles. The number of major river crossing battles in ancient history is relatively small compared to the number of battles without them. I would be quite happy to give them up if possible.Originally Posted by Red Harvest

It is not possible. Unless you completely remove rivers from the map, which would be very strange.

I haven't done detailed map editing in RTW, but I suppose it would be possible to leave a "gap" in the river wherever the roads cross rivers. That would end river crossings--if discontinuous rivers are even possible. River crossings were a major aspect of a number of battles, but each tended to be unique for conditions of the time/season/place of crossing.

The problem with that is that the game decides where the roads go, not the map maker.

Yes, I have heard that, but if you have clear ground on that point in the grid where the road normally crosses the river, it *should* be more likely to place the road there. I haven't tested the idea, but it is the one way I can see that this might work. The default map is structured with barriers so that the number of ways to get from one province to the next is limited in most cases.

It could work, but the amount of work required to actually get it to would be a lot, especially for someone inexperienced in modding.

The easiest thing to do would be to try it at 1 or 2 locations to see if it worked at all. If it did, then it could be applied elsewhere. It wouldn't have to be 100% either, one might focus on the most common sights of bridge battles (probably a dozen places or so.)

How do you remove rivers from the main map?
