    Default MIITW and Kingdoms, 1-10?

So I just got the Steam deal for Medieval Two Total War for under ten bucks, and I am happy. I have done the demo and beaten the historical battles, and it looks like the game is pretty fun. I would like your honest rating on 1-10 for the main game, and 1-10 on the Kingdoms expansion. Thank you!

with just vanilla, I give MED2 probably a 7.5/10. Get Stainless Steel or something like then, then its bordering on a 9-10/10

Kingdoms is a must for the better mods, so I give it a 9/10 just because of that.

About Kingdoms, it is said to be one of the most "content-rich expansions in the Total War series", what does Kingdoms have exactly?

    I 'd give M2TW a 8.5/10 and the same to the expansion.

It has 4 interesting new campaigns each of them needs different tactical approach. And of course, new units, features, maps etc.

4 new scenarios: crusades (levant); brittania, teutonic (northern crusades)and america.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieva..._War:_Kingdoms

They give a campaign on a smaller scale (which results in a more balanced AI), and provide new gameplay features. for example, in the britania campaign you need to ocnverse provinces to your culture (irish, scottish, welsh,...) to be able to train better units.

they are a bit like the peninsular campaign for napoleon if you have played it, only four times (and 4 times different). I recommend it, its very good, and very cheap for what you get

    Medieval Vanilla: 7/10

    Kingdoms: 9/10

The first crucial feature, I think, is the ability to control reinforcement armies on the battlefield (by setting them to aggressive or defense mode). The lack of this feature in vanilla is especially frustrating when you're fighting multiple stacks of Mongols/Timurids and the AI reinforcements just sit there and do nothing.

The second crucial feature is the rebalance of cavalry and two-handed infantry. In Vanilla, cavalry is way overpowered, and can easily overrun spearmen. However, in Kingdoms, they are appropriately nerfed, including a reduction in unit size. Similarly, 2handers (infantry with two handed swords, halberds and two handed axes) are totally underpowered in Vanilla, so as to be nearly useless compared to sword-shield infantry. This is a problem because it compromises the diversity in unit selection. However, Kingdoms rebalances this by giving 2h infantry higher stats and increasing the charge effect of infantry untis, thereby making 2h infantry practical units on the battlefield.

    vanilla 8.5, retrofit mod 9.25, kingdoms 9.5.

Kingdoms campaigns are very good. Less factions but far more balanced in terms of gameplay(and you get byz firethowers)

I would say that the game is worth it for its mods. I played vanilla RTW and enjoyed it but I never played M2TW vanilla. If you are posting cause you have any doubts if kingdoms is worth it I would say that considering mods it could easily be rated 10/10.

    vanilla 7.5
kingdoms separate campaigns and features 8
kingdoms modded into main campaign 8.5
full blown mods (SS, BC, Bellum Crucis, TATW, etc) 11/10 these mods make me unable to play shogun2, shogun 2 feels like a child play compared to SS
