Default Loyalty - is there any way to increase it?

OK, this question has probably been asked to death, but is there any way to increase generals loyalty otuside of giving them certain retinues and ancillaries?

I ask because, while I appreciate that a general who wins many battles will have success go to his head, this happening to every single one of them is extremely frustrating and ahistorical. Surely there would be *some* generals who know what their place is and value loyalty? Its a massive drop too, from like 4 rings to two, sometimes even nill, it's really starting to affect my gameplay.

So does anyone know how to add to generals loyalty, even if through a cheat or editing files?

    Cheers.

I have also had this problem, and forgot to ask JH in my request for fixes in the next patch. The loyalty problem should be a must!

Tell me about it, is there also something to keep the 'Gloomy' trait at bay? I have quite a few 'energetic' generals, many of which have 'inspired' and 'enthusiastic' traits, only to also have 'gloomy', which is annoying,

    Cheers.

Hmm, I will reduce the chances of disloyalty, especially around winning battles.

Also, you need to ensure that your characters are fully supplied. The more hungry an army gets the more rebellious, especially on foreign soil. This can be over come by acquiring the LogisticalSkill trait but more so by either winning battles (nothing quite beats pillaging the enemies wagon train, but also taking your general back to a city to re stock.

The Agent In Rebus Ancillary can be useful in raising a generals disloyalty. This ancillary can be gained if you have a city with either an academy, scriptorium or ludus_magnus in it. If your character is in a city with one of these buildings and has a disloyalty trait in excess of 1, then he has a 20, 30 and 35% chance of acquiring an agent. The agent comes with a +3 loyalty and -1 influence, so this should help in curbing and generals thinking of rebelling.

ok, I'm now less confused XD

in any event, since I never had this happen before (not that I know of): what does happen if loyalty hits "0"?

yes it'a true. In one recent game putting Silvanus and Barbatio in cities with that allow that they gain the agent in rebus trait...and guess what they do not rebel...great trait if i may say.

I think there is something wrong with the 'Gloomy' trait. I've repeatedly kept certain generals well within their movement points allowance, sometimes only marching half the distance allowed, only for them to still get the 'forced marching' trait afterwards, and surprise surprise, the 'gloomy' trait. What's worse, both Nevitta and Julian (some of the main characters in my AAR) and not even 5+ turns in Antiocheia, with daily games, makes it go away.

I was under the impression that after 'resting them' for a turn of two the gloomy trait would disappear?

This has been addressed in the next patch which should be out hopefully tomorrow.

Yes, though altering the traits and ancillary files have been known to create some rather interesting trait gains from time to time for saved games.

By 'interesting trait gains' JH, do you mean something like seeing my Quaddi go from Pagans to Zoroastrians to Kushan?
