I figured this would interest some people here. It's a documentary which follows a group of Danish soldiers before, during and after their 6-month deployment to Afghanistan back in 2009. Big politics meet the realities of war on a microlevel, and it's a sad and frustrating yet highly recommended film.

Indeed. All contracted military personel is obligated to complete a course of Taktisk Sanitetstjeneste for Enkeltmand (TSE); Tactical Medical care for the Individual - Which basically means that everyone is trained to be a "light" medic, and every soldier will be equipped with the most essentials to stop most bleeding from wounds. It has saved a lot of lives in Afghanistan and Iraq from what I've heard. I don't know what the american and british equilevants are, although I'm certain that Jin and others are acquainted with this...

Add to that our medics are some of the best educated and equipped you'll find. Of all the branches we have in the danish army I respect them the most.

The US Army has the Combat Lifesaver Course which is our equivalent. Got to respect the Danes, most soldiers per capita in Afghanistan and they bring the fight to the enemy. Cnut would look kindly upon his descendants.

In the Marines everyone carries an individual first aide kit. Every Marine is trained in the basic stuff, but besides our Corpsmen (Navy medics), we send people to the combat lifesaver courses and combat aidesman course-- which are excellent. The increase in medical training for your every day rifleman is extremely effective and reducing casualties.

As for the documentary itself, I actually watched it when I was TDY in Denmark lol. It was pretty good.

If anyone else is looking for good documentaries on the war in Afghanistan check out.
The Battle for Marjah; about US Marines and Operation Moshtarrak. This one is from HBO.
Our War; a BBC documentary about three episodes long that follows British troops in Afghanistan using mostly footage shot by the soldiers themselves on their helmet cams.

I'll have to watch this when I get some time. I really enjoyed Restrepo and I think it'd be interesting to see what it's like for non-American troops over there.

Just a bit of warning to the weak-souled: This documentary features both nude breasts, and actual dead people.

Anyway, I don't believe that is how ISAF conduct operations in Afghanistan; if it is true, it is not hard to understand why Taliban still rampage in Afghanistan today.

Well, I guess I'll be "that guy" lol. I personally didn't care that much for Armadillo. The editing with the post production desaturated-ish effect going on annoyed the heck out of me, and the constant switching of camera angles during the firefights seemed like a failed attempt to make the engagements seem more intense to the viewer. All in all, (at least to me) it seemed to be an over-dramatic attempt at a war documentary. Almost like it was trying to make a war doc more into more of a war film, some parts even seemed entirely staged to me.

If you haven't already seen it, I think Restrepo is MUCH better.

This seems to be an excellent documentary based upon the reactions thus far.

I look forward to watching the film, it looks like it will provide some valuable incites regarding the hardships of war.
