Siege army reinforcements do NOT attack

Hello,

greetings to all of you total war series players. I am new to the forum, and did not manage to find out answer to my question.

I am playing m2tw kingdoms britannia campaign as scotland. My castle got besieged by 3 armies, about 4 times size of my defending army. I was defending for 1 hour on very hard difficulty, and defeated attacking army with only about 1/4 loses (and i was very happy with this achievment), while another 2 reinforcement armies just stood ground. My army was seriously weakened, out of arrows and - do i get it right - the game wants ME to come out of castle, and attack remaining 2 armies? is this a joke? how do i exit battle without losing castle? if they dont want to attack, they just dont, i switched speed to 6x, waited half an hour and nothing happend, so i ran out of patience, quit battle and castle was lost... i mean WTF?


is this normal behaviour, are you also experiencing such stupidity?

Thanx any help on how to overcome this - except turning on battle time limit on the start of campaign (which i did not do, thus it's helpless for me now...)

This happens all the time. While I am defending a siege I always make sure to turn the battle time limit on. This will force them to either attack you or lose. I once had an enemy army sit in the street leading up to the square until the time limit ran out. You can turn the time limit on mid-game.

i guess it still wouldnt change already running battle, but good to know for the future...

The last time this happened to me I did exit the battle, but still won.

I like to save before battles in case I forget to do this. They decided to attack you, so they should suffer if they don't.
