    Default A new graphics card

    Hello everyone,
I'm in need of a need gfx card. I was about to buy a Nvdia GeFrorce GTX 570 series card, but then it came to my knowledge that a card from that series is too big for my computer case (Antec Sonata III) and maybe slighly too powerfull for my relative old system:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium 64bit
    Motherboard: Asus P5Q-E
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Q9450 @ 3,00 GHz
    Memory: 8 GB RAM
Card name: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX
    Power supply: 700 W
    Computer Case: Antec Sonata III

So I'm now planning to buy a GTX 560 Ti series card, but I'm quite unsure which manufacturer's card should I buy. There is so much where to choose from.
In a local shop they recommended me this card: CLUB 3D GTX 560 TI PCIE 1GB GDDR5 OC-ED. It is 234,60 €
Is it good or are there better alternatives?
    Thanks!

What's the price of that one? I recommend MSI Hawk one.

    I see...
However, that card has a lower engine clockrate, 830 MHz, compared to 880 MHz?
Are those clockrates important or are there other factors that are more important?
You see, I'm not really familiar with these things.

It's essentially the same card, just factory overclocked. 50mhz won't make anything but a negligible difference anyways.

most times the overclocked cards are out of box easier for ppl that dont know anything

otherwise in most situations you buy the cheapest version of a card you can find with the best cooler available

thats usually the MSI twin frozr series, Asus Direct CU, Gigabyte Windforce etc, and just overclock the base cards to the overclocked models with apps like MSI afterburner, etc etc but whatever clock speeds are listed on overclocked models aka tha 880mhz core any gpu even a stock card will hit that clock speed if your willing to do it yourself, just depends on if out of box yourself, as some prefer ease of use.

Well I have never overclokced a gfx card and I would ofcourse prefer it to be factory overclocked.
I have oc'ed my cpu though, is overclocking a gfx much harder?

Edit: I came across this card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti SOC and by the preview it should be very powerfull for a 560 card.
    Your thoughts?

Actually not, it's much easier, though a little bit of risky because some cards are a bit touchy on the voltage. If you don't want to touch the voltage, you can easily get a risk free 50-120mhz OC, just by raising the Core clock.

Well that doesn't sound too hard.
Anyway I'm now between Gigabyte and Asus cards and can't decide between them...
Gigabyte seems to be more powerfull than Asus, but not dramatically.

Then, I made some calculations and if they are correct, a GTX 570 might just fit into my computer case.

This EVGA gtx570 HD is smaller than the normal 570, and has a full hdmi connection instead of mini to boot:

I also found this N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC. It is 2 cm shorter than my 9800 GTX so it should perfectly fit in my Antec Sonata III case.

Then go for it. The Twin Frozr III is easily the best/one of the best.

I just got a GTX 570 two days ago. Great card. Great upgrade for under $200 after the sale of my 460. Will easily factor in until 2013-2014 when the next Nvidia cards worthy of an upgrade come down the pipes.
