    Default Priest recruitment limit.

I couldn't find a thread about this anywhere so I decided to start a new one to confirm some of my theories regarding the priest recruitment limit. I always make sure I have the max amount of priests, which is why I always get annoyed when I check my settlements and see that I have one or more priests available.

So after a while I notice that when I build an Abbey I can recruit an additional priest. I'm not entirely sure about Cathedrals but I'm fairly sure you get an additional priest when you build a Huge Cathedral. Also, it seems to me that whenever a cardinal is promoted it frees up a priest slot.

I want to hear your experiences regarding this, maybe someone can shed some more light on this case. I know it's a little bit trivial, but if you're like me and get obsessed with every little detail in games it just can't be helped

One last question, does troops without a general or family member, placed in a fort have a chance to rebel?

Regarding your first question I think that's basically it, altough I've only noticed that you can have a priest for each city as long as you have a church/chapel. But I think abbeys allow you to have another priest. Keep in mind that this can be sometimes confusing especially when you have a large territory because once in a while priests become heretics without one even noticing.

As for your second question I don't think they rebel, as in, become rebels naturally. But as with all "captains" they can be bribed pretty easily.

no, they never rebel if they are in a fort even if they are not comanded by a FM

and for the first question, IIRC it doesn't matter if it is an abbey, a small church etc. ; you get a priest available for recruiting for every religious building you have; for example I have 2 castles (each with a small chapel built) and one city with a small church, this means I can recruit 3 priests, if I upgrade my small churc and make it a church I'll have 4 priests available for recruiting, If I upgrade the 2 small chapels into chapels then I'll have 6 priests available for recruiting, and so on ... correct me if I'm wrong

I've been wondering about this for a while, and I thought I'd figured it out.

Would this be the same with the other agents then? If I had 6 merchants available from having 6 settlements with Grain Exchenges, would I be able to recruit all of those Merchants in a single settlement?

    yep
but I'm not sure about those things, a veteran player could confirm

    Hmm I'm not sure about castle chapels but I don't think you get another priest when you upgrade from a small church to church in towns. I think it skips one tier like this;

    Small Church - 1 Priest
    Church - 1 Priest
    Abbey - 2 Priests
    Cathedral - 2 Priests
    Huge Cathedral - 3 Priests

and so from what you're saying about chapels you get a total of 2 priests from a castle that has a chapel.

Same for the other type of agents. Upgrading the building increases the limit for the agent.

The merchants number is capped, it's one per city with a market. It does not increase if you build bigger markets.

I think you can get as many assassin/spy/diplomat as you want, no upper limit as far as I know.

Start a game as HRE, you'll be able to recruit a diplomat every single turn in Frankfurt, and it's the only city you have with a town hall.

Build one brothel somewhere and you'll be able to recruit a spy every turn in the city where you built it.

Higher level building only gives better trait to your spy or diplomats. There is no cap on how many spies/diplomats and assassins you can recruit, as long as you get the building to recruit them.

BS. You get as many diplomats as you have town halls and as many spies as you have brothels.

I wouldn't even bet that the last level of market doesn't increase the limit of merchants to 2, but I guess I should check that. Though other things I wrote, I know for certain.

Playing as Portugal, I pretty much control the Papacy because I'm always spamming the Moors' (muslim) lands with priests, it's pretty awesome

I'm pretty sure it's only one priest per city.
