He's says it's been artifacting on and off for a year... I'm going to guess it's out of warranty, or he really, really doesn't want to RMA the thing

Absolutely, but no way would I hold on to a card for a year that has a nasty habit of artifacting whenever it jolly well pleases.

It's bad enough. Since still in warranty RMA it immediately before you run out of time.

ok they sent me two auto e-mails confiming my rma, and then a real email saying they can RMA it or offer online support. do i just reply to the email saying rma? its not very clear. thanks

edit: just realised the email adress of the 'real' email begins with noreply@ so i guess i cant do that. i guess i have to go through the website again, but its broken.

Just follow the directions on the email regarding RMA. They make it confusing for a reason - in the hope you'll lose patience and give up. Good luck!

Which is why I buy EVGA GPU's.

Step 1: call toll free number 24/7
Step 2: Talk to an english speaking American support member after little to no hold time.
    Step 3: Explain problem
    Step 4: RMA number given
Step 5: Send GPU in with RMA number provided
    Step 6: receive different GPU

You just can't beat that type of service.

Well, I checked out that site - it's not necessarily broken but the security validation is two months out of date. It may work - It may not. It's up to you whether to trust it or not. Good luck!

your right, this is a pain. they sent another email saying they dont handle RMA's for this product and i need to contact sphire.

this is an absolute joke. saphire wants to know the make of my mobo (got it) model (found that too) and the bios it uses. as well as the video card bios. how do i find those out? thanks

edit: dosnt matter, found it. ticket created, now i just have to wait for a reply

wait whos the vendor for your GPU

you dont return GPUS to AMD

you return them to the vendor

    Sapphire
    XFX
    GeCube
    MSI
    ASUS
    Gigabyte

    etc etc etc

even OEM machines with GPUs that are unlabeled if you pull the GPU out and look at the PCB there is usually a vendor mark on there somewhere

    correct

    AMD bougth ATi in 2006

but the GPU is Sapphire means you deal with Sapphire

AMD makes the GPU and gives vendors a set list of what will work with the card and a PCB layout so that way Powercolor Sapphire xfx etc can all release gpus after that they take said GPU and design there own PCBs etc and go from there

basically put think of AMD and Sapphire

like GMC and Chevy under the hood there the same, but you have to go to the specific manufacturer to get service so to speak.
