    Default An Entire Army Vanishes!

Hear my tale of woe as I explain how I lost 5 Urban Cohorts and 2 Praetorian Cavalry as well as my faction heir in a literal instant. So there I was exterminating the Gauls as I am a Roman, it is what I do, then suddenly the Spanish attack one of my legion forts. I had only a couple auxilia units holding down the fort so they were quickly overrun by the masses of naked fanatics and Iberian infantry. Naturally this makes a successful Roman general like myself very pissed off so I spent a few turns training Urban Cohorts and Praetorian Cavalry in several cities to launch a powerful retaliation strike led by my faction heir himself. After I mass my forces I load them onto some naval ships to have my troops land on the enemy shores. Only 1 turn later I reach the Spanish shore and prepare to launch the furry of Roman might my army was mysteriously not there. The game claimed there was no soldiers on the ships and there were no notifications of any events that could explain the disappearance of them. Its almost as if the game couldnt handle the punishment that was to be unleashed on the Spanish so it just deleted my entire force and my faction heir.

I've been playing Rome and Medieval 2 for a year now and thats never happened to me before, has this ever happened to anyone else? Or does anyone have any ideas why this happened to me?

That's odd. Were you in debt at all? Maybe they deserted? But that wouldn't explain the heir...

Well obviously your faction heir and his soldiers decided joining the pirates was much more fun than serving in your stupid army. Who can say no to booze and women, and the opportunity to plunder and pillage?!
Now serious. I haven't had this before, can't help mate

Oh my god, there are going to be a lot of very well trained pirates roaming the seas before I just found peace in assuming that they were washed away in a storm but now I'm going to fear the ocean as there are over 500 ex-urban cohorts out for plunder

Can't you go to your family tree and then find your faction air from there?

    ^I wanted to say that.

Ask Cambyses, he should know a thing or two about disappearing armies. His was in a sandstorm, though.

Check the family tree and hover over the heir.

It should tell you how he died, and thus how the army died. There might've been a storm.

    Or if he isn't dead...

    My scenario:

The army was swallowed by a "times hole"! Then they appeared in your backyard and declare you're their master!! Then you have a full stack of Roman army!...

Seriously: Never have the same problem before but like the previous comment. Check your family tree

This has happened to me once or twice but it was always because some1 bribed them.

Last time it happened was ridiculous i had an entire stack full of urban and prat's plus my faction ruled sieging sparta next turn athens is under siege by my own bloody army lol.

I killed them all but was rly annoying .

Luckily i wasnt certain my army could take sparta so i had a 2nd army in athens ready to mop up if needed so i wiped them out only about 1/4 of the men even reached the walls and they were easily cut down.
I am the shadow, and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost, that hides in the night.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

    You began the war.

I am going to end it!

Ok, so I checked the family tree and it says hes still alive so there is a faction heir and over 500 urban cohorts lost in a worm hole or something but they're still alive?...I wonder what will happen when my current leader dies and my missing heir becomes the emperor?...

Hmm...when I bribe them the army would just disband, and only the generals will join me.

It seems to be very strange indeed, could be a glitch or a just one of those historical events where entire army deserts orjust misteriously wanishes.

Take a single unit of general's bodyguard, and get some auto_win-ish revenge on the computer.

I sometimes do it when I get screwed over in some ridiculous way (my best general and army getting bribed, etc.)
