Default Statue of the Eternal President unveiled in London

And no, I'm not talking about Kim Il Sung.

A statue of former US President Ronald Reagan has been unveiled at a ceremony outside the American embassy in central London.
The 10-foot bronze statue was specially commissioned to "recognise Mr Reagan's contribution to ending the Cold War".
Members of the British Cabinet, including Foreign Secretary William Hague, attended the ceremony, along with the US Ambassador Louis B Susman and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The statue stands outside the embassy in Grosvenor Square, opposite the statue of President Dwight Eisenhower.

Because we have a statue of a former President it must be equivalent to having one on every street corner, his image on every wall, and a requirement to worship him.

Just like we have a personality cult of Rocky Balboa because we have a statue of him in Philadelphia, and the Scottish worshipped Mel Gibson.

I was kind of waiting for him to give a serious answer like this.

Geez, if he thinks those statues are in any way special he's never been to Washington D.C.

Besides remembering him with great fondness, pissing the socialists off is the main reason for statues and ... you guessed it! ... Reagan avatars!

Reagan would turn over in his grave if he knew what the Republican party of today has become.

that would e an interesting topic for another thread. In some cases, he would hate the GOP. In others, he would support it.

Sadly this thread is wasted on ridiculous statements by Jingle, rather than a serious discussion on the prevalence of personality politics in America and its effect on political discourse.

Why is this guy so liked? Because he supposedly single handedly destroyed the USSR? Or because his regime started the ridiculous spending spree that has yet to be paid off in the US and is almost certainly going to lose them the top spot of the global economy.

No one single handedly did anything, but he did a *lot* to put pressure on the USSR, and it eventually fell over, remember his 'Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!' in Berlin. And the wall came down.

The Left will always say, it would have all happened anyway etc, but, Reagan fought the good fight, despite being hated by the Left who saw the Soviet Empire as their great hope for socialism worldwide. IN large part because of Ronald Reagan, about 1 billion people in Europe no longer live under the communist jackboot.

I actually figure the left has more legitimate claims against him regarding the Contra affair, the Nicaragua thing, and his serious misjudgment in El Salvador and other central American countries, as well as Lebanon.

Communism didn't collapse because of Reagan whatsoever, it collapsed because it was a pile of shite.
