Problems installing SS6.4

Hi all,

new to the forums so please be gentle with my newbishness...

so I just did exactly the following steps

1) clean install of M2TW Gold edition to a directory outside of "program files" directory

2) clean install of SS6.3 from here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=383005
(chose mirror 2 - torrent version)

3) clean install of SS6.4 patch

4) Ran SS setup, all fine, clicked on "start and exit" at bottom of launcher

5) Window comes up with:

No disc inserted.
Please insert the original "MED2GOLD" CD/DVD.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=nodisc for further, more detailed information.

Only options are "Retry" (no good) and "cancel"

I have literally done so few things I fail to see where I have gone wrong... fml

Any help guys?! Please help me out!

Try patching your kingdoms to 1.5 - normally I only see that message when kingdom itself is patched wrong but what the hell it can't hurt ya

I was pretty sure that the Gold edition came with kingdoms already patched to 1.5...

Gold edition is 1.4 - watch out there are 1.5 patches for gold and non-gold editions, nevermind patches with different localisations .

my bad... ive just installed the 1.05 patch but now more weirdness:

1) I still get the same error message when trying to open SS 6.4
2) Now I also get the same message when trying to run any of the kingdoms expansions (e.g. teutonic)!!

wtf is going on?

I tried running the patch again but I get a message saying that patch 1.05 is already installed

Vanilla M2TW works fine...

Please please help!

Reinstall Kingdoms and try ss6.4 again after that. I'll get back to you later

is the install from disk or steam?

Losthief - the install is from disk - I will try again now and no doubt post again soon when it doesn't work

Ok so I reinstalled Kingdoms to a directory outside c:/program files, and this time changed all the files to "complete access for all users" before I installed SS. This time SS 6.3 and 6.4 work (yey!) but only when the M2TW disk is in the drive... I thought this game was supposed to work on its own!?

This mod doesn't bypass copy protection. It works without any of the kingdoms expansions installed as long as the kingdoms.exe is present BUT it doesn't remove the need for the disk if the kingdoms.exe is non-steam. If it did, this mod would be toast.
