    Default Card overheating now

I know it's summer, but my card (Ati Radeon 5770) is really heating up quick.
When I play Anno 1404 for example, it has reached 81c after 10 mins.
The case is pretty much dust free, and I'm not OCing the card so what could be causing it?
Idle temp is about 60c-65c, and this overheating has caused my PC to go on standby 1 or 2 times already.

EDIT: Switched the settings from Very High to Medium, and that lowers it by about 5c...

I had similar problems with my Nvidia card reaching 50 Celsius. I changed it but it did not solve the problem. I later found out that the Motherboard was problematic. See if that causes the problem.
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."

50 degrees Celsius should never be a major cause of hardware failure. Your MoBo was likely screwed from something else.

I'm assuming air cooled? How many fans do you have on that case? And are you sure that they are clean and clear? Your case may be clean but check the fans. Just curious - what external temps are are you getting?

Fans are clear, maybe the air flow isn't right? Because the top is blowing out cool air.
    Anyway here are the temps:

If my pc get BSOD's and goes on standby for no reason, I think I should start worrying.

bsod is fine disable auto restard write down the error code google the error code

most likely its not the gpu causing it unless its over 100'c in which case the GPU will usually start to die and then you get graphical corruption

BSODs tend to be unstable overclocks or dying ram, also can be a windows OS issue from a corrupted updated or messed up registry etc something causing it to freak out, could be a power issue if the psu cant handle the load, that saidif the games originally play without issue and with no graphical corruption untill the BSOD then its most likely not the gpu

looking at the temps in speedfan every and catalyst control panel everything looks fine to me. in terms of temps

Does this seem to happen in Anno 1404 only or does it happen in other games or software as well? Do you know how to run Memtest86?

    Any game.
And I've heard about memtest, some sort of RAMscanner?
The Iso is a bit of a hassle, removed Daemon tools awhile ago.

how long have you had this card for? the 5770 is supposed to run cooler than that. at least it should be idling about 15 degrees cooler than that. where do you live? dumb question perhaps but your computer wouldn't happen to be in direct sunlight would it?

Wait. ISO? What ISO did you have? Daemon tools have been known to crash out games before - it screws with DRM.

Run Memtest from the site I linked to. It will take an hour or so but it will confirm if the RAM is fine or corrupted. That will help us narrow it down.

And just so you know - torrented software is verboten on this board. Let's dial-in on the games you own first to see where the problem lies. Good luck!

    uh genius moment

you can burn an ISO to a disc as a bootable image,

with tools like poweriso, nero etc, or you can get the USB version of Memtest 86+ and just use the auto installer to have it format and properly setup a USB thumb drive as a bootable drive

    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

    look for the one labeled

EXE for usb key thats all you need + a usb thumb drive press F8 or w.e you need at boot for the boot menu select the usb thumb drive and presto thats it.

All true enough but Nero, Daemon, PowerISO, etc. seem to screw with the copy-protection for older games. I'm assuming that's why he uninstalled Daemon in the first place.

Anything to do with SecuRom for one will keep the game from working right if at all. Medieval2 and Kingdoms for two.

    One error found.
Something to do with transferring data.

Didn't catch the whole message, since I assumed I would get a report after the scan.

Next time it happens try for a screen grab. At that point in Memtest it may be impossible but it would help us immensely.

Now it's been a long time since I've used Memtest but I feel fairly sure there was a log created. The question is where it was created. If you can find it and update us then you'd be helping us out alot. Good luck!

Well it's unlikely to be RAM then - unless you're overclocking at all? You might as well Memtest a few more times just to confirm CrazyEyedReapers theory. Heat's not the issue - your temps really aren't that bad.

Are you overclocking anything at all? And way back to your original statement - you say the computer goes into "standby" a couple of times? What exactly do you mean? Does the system go into Sleep mode? Does it shut down?

Well the fans blow really hard lately when I start up a game, so that's why I thought it could be overheating.

As for the standby, it happens when I'm gaming, the screen goes off, and then the pc shuts down.
And it starts up again when I press a random key, and continues where I was before.
