Well, since i wanted to enjoy messing up with traits, I had an idea for a westeros-lore education trait system, based on age and remaining in a certain settlement type. This to add even more role-playing to the game, so you can get affectionate to particular characters during your campaign
This education system, at the present, would be the same for all factions, but this can be changed with release of 1.0 (due to lack of descr_religions.txt and descr_cultures.txt in 0.53)
Here is the main idea:
Character come on age at 7 (but can marry only at 14). Same thing for adopted-newly recruited generals. But they have few movement points.
Education is divided into military and civil education: the first one is provided in Castles, the second in cities, but there must be some particular buildings there -ex. council chambers in city, 1st tier barracks in castle. I have in mind to add an "ecclesiastic" one (the citadel), but time is premature.
Also, a Princesses education exists.
It is lore-based on the Andal's knighthood system for the military part, while the civil one has still no lore source but is similar to medieval universities, so can be lore-respecting. More details:
Military Path:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
When he comes on age, our character is just a child, even if, like Rickon Stark, he has a futur as Lord of Badassness. So, while he is in his youth, we choose to send him in a Castle, where he will become
- Page of a castellan. He must be 8-11 years old, if he is older when he arrives at the castle, he will have no education. (you'll have lost the train). He will be a worse commander and governor than he could. After 8 turns passed in the castle (not necessarily the same one, even different castles but with the adequate building) - not necessarily in a row (he could "loose" 8 turns) - he will be raised to
-Squire. He must be 10 - 13 (again, you'll lose a train if he's older). As squire, he must pass at least another 8 turns (2 years) in castles, but now he wil have no more age limits nor building ones. At the end, he will be ready for be a
-Knight. He must be at least 15. Then, he will be probably ordered Knight if
1) He joins a tourney (tourney field in the settlement he is) or
2) He joins a Battle under the command of a Knight general - and battle is won, of course.
He still can lead an army by himself if needed, but men will have low morale (wo wants to take order from a Squire in Westeros, even if he is son of a king?)
Only Knights can have land-titles (those ancs with heraldic symbols you gain after been 1 turn in a settlement). Once he gained such a title, he will be
-Lord. well... the word says everything.
The ages are not (totally) invented: remember Arya with Roose Bolton, And Jaime talking about Tommen be Loras' Squire with Cersei.
Civil path:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Between 9 and 12, he must be in a settlement with a proper building. (Like school or chapel) so he will be a
-Scholar and will have to follow lessons in city for... let's say... 7 years, in order to become
-Bachelor of Arts; due to open-minded of schools, he can be 17-26 years old, so he has all the time.
Since he is 20 years old (and BoA), he can start a
-Political Career: only politicians (and knights) can have those land-titles. Then he will be a
-Lord, like a military educated man. but traits and abilities will be more different.
Princesseseducation - no matter if in city or castle (but may can ancillaries be different?)
between 7 and 11 our little princess will be send in a city, where, in a couple of yeras, she will become a
- Young Lady (9 - 13 years old) in a noble House. There she learns what a girl of her age should - courtesy, tailoring, speaking only if questioned etc...
going on with her education, she will be a
- Lady of Rank (13 - 15 years old) in the house, following her mistress and learning from her directly: within oter 3 years, she will be ready to take her rightful place in society, and will be considered by everyone as a
- Noble Lady.
Of course, leave education half-done will be a neagtive thing for all characters, but still better than being uneducated at all!
bugs:
the most annoying IMO is that AI factions develope idiots characters, since AI can't be forced to educate them. the solutions (make a scripted education for AI characters, disable education for AI) are quite easy to do but will take some time.
still doesn't work with adopted\recruited generals.

And that`s the Reason why we have no plans for creating a much more complex education system. Don`t worry, we will make changes to traits and education, but not such a major one.
You are welcome to make a submod for the 1.0 version. I like your idea and i`m sure that some others will, too.
Just a little matter: Only Knights can command soldiers in battle without hefty morale penalties and can have lands? Hmm, well, The Starks surely won`t like that. Knighthood should only be a option for followers of the Seven.
Btw, i could well imagine that having a maester would also influence the kids in some way. Let`s say the father has a maester ancillary; This will make it more likely to acquire positive traits for the children.
In the books the measters were often portrayed as teachers for little lordlings.

Good point. There is this "Tutor"-Ancilliary kids get in vanilla.
I'm not sure about the inner workings of it, or wether it's gain is influenced by something, but if possible it would be cool to have the childs education influenced by it. The father could even give his own maester ancilliary to his child to boost the education.
However, the question remains wether education will play any major part in this mod to begin with.
Is it possible to have the age-timer separated from the year-timer? I think they did something similar in TATW
This would both allow for faster aging (taking kids & education into account), and could represent ASoIaF's climate, were Summer can last for years. I can see the ingame seasons taking many turns, so the first 50 or so turns might be autum, with the rest of the game in Winters grasp (maybe an emergent spring at the end)

However, as it been stated, such an educational system would not be suitable for vanilla 1.0, due to the 12tpy, but when 1.0 comes out Im sure theres someone (if not you yourself) makes an 4/2/1tpy submod, in which case this would be really well suited!
Yes, theres a very interesting point, what happens with winter/summer? Will we get a 50 turn winter and some negative side effects. Ancillary/trait that removes your movement points, HPs, morale and stuff?
The thing is, it's 12 turns a year (I believe), so unless you play for a very long time, children won't play a part.
Damn, I forgot! well, will make a submod so...

Hey! 12 turns per year are a of time! yes, it would be fantastic as game-immersion, but i still hope in a 4 tpy submod.

Yes, I agree, but in 0.53 all faction are catholic! but in 1.0 Knighthood should be the option for
Lanister - Tyrell - Joff - Stannis - Renly - Frey - Tully
(I know, stannis adored 'Rhllor, but i assume his supporters would mantain at least the tradion of the seven).
@Murfmurf
Have you coded before by the way?
It's only my 2nd project, I admit I've very little experience.
@khatmar, Captain Zoran, Maguidir
Thanks guys!
EDIT
I didn't think about ancs, using them could be a cool idea

Making a submod with 4 TPY should be quite easily doable, you`ll just have to make a few other changes in that case (Building times, for example.) I`d like one myself, just in order to be able to grow my own Generals.
I have to warn away from ancillaries as you can only have 8 per charactor i believe. It would be better suited as traites with tiers the way you discribed. i like this idea, however who is to say that a child of royalty (or wealth) couldn't have his own tutors to follow him where ever he went, so on that point i suggest making a Script (event) on a child birth which would ask you which path in life you would like him to follow.
I Also believe there should be more than two schooling for the young men of westeros.
E.g - Master of arms school - Wooden Waster, Duelist, Master of Arms - +1hp for each rank
Master of sums - Learned, Schooled, Mathmatical Genius - +10% on all income (mining, farming, tax, trade)
Field Commander - you get the idea - +2 command, +1 leader movement bonus
Leader of men - this i for your heir - +1 authority +1 command +1 Bravery
I'm sure you guys can come up with some a little more lore based, so any good one you can think of give it a post, this could be used as the wipp for a futere sub-mod
'Tis hard to hold a couger by the tail.
Alt+F4 because life is full of surprises
Sure u only are able to have 8 ancs? I think i have had nearly 16 on some generals playing eerything from Rome to Empire!? Or is it just this "MOD" this is the case in?

No, the hardcoded limit is 8. You can have as many traits as you want but ancillaries are limited.
is it hardcoded to make a general wht type of bodyguard? Like is it possible to train a general to be an archer through scripting? Like a hidden skill for archery horsemanship and archery the determines what type of bodyguard he uses
dan da man wit da plan
all hail the mighty money cheat

I think that family members will always have the faction type bodyguard, but its possible to make it so that you can recruit generals, by recruiting different bodyguard units (as you would recruit normal units).
I thought of something just now, why can't u have this edi thing in a twelve turns a year game? Education takes time nay??
When a started edi me didnt end school in a few "turn" nay?! I think this can work...makin the childs a bit more fun at the start instead of just a pic in the F tree right?!
