    Default Ultimate Showdown time

Im pretty sure alot of people wanted to see the Hound and the Mountain end their long standing rivalry at the Tourney of the Hand, so who do you think would have won and why?

I vote for the mountain in a one on one fight (lets be real here guys) but I doubt the hound would play fair given a chance to kill his brother so he gets my vote if its not a fair fight (like if he had time to set up things to his advantage)

My vote goes to the Mountain.
I can't believe that the Wound would have let him live if he had a real chance to kill him.
But i would have been his supporter (if i was sure Greg wouldn't catch me too)

The Hound doesn't have the speed of Oberyn nor the strength to go blow to blow. I like Sandor, but the Mountain is just....the Mountain.

This. One could argue that the Hound was literally living to bring down Gregor, but then, almost the same could be said for Oberyn.
There's just something to be said for being a steel-clad battlemonster with a freakish constitution.

So while the Hound is one of my favourite characters (i like them dark and tormented ) my vote goes to the Mountain.
Still, it might go either way if Sandor had some preparation. He's long past fighting honourable

One shouldn`t forget that they did fight once, in the tourney of the hand, and it was pretty even. Gregor gets bonus points for his size and strength, sandor.. Well, i think he might stay a bit calmer than his brother in battle. An invaluable advantage.

This. Many fights are won beforehand, namely by assezing your opponent, evaluating his strengths and weaknesses, and comparing them to your own. It's the same when we first meet a person, only in a fight its more simple. Is he prey or a predator?
The Mountain, having a huge advantage over most other men by his massive strength, size and constitution also has the advantage of being portrayed as the ultimate killing machine in most other mens eyes, thus giving him an easier job to finish.
The true fight ensues when someone who does not consider him fully an predator decides to fight him, where it gets down to more basic set of brute force and will. The Hound is the same, and when you take into account that he also resembles his brother when it comes to strenght and constituion, he also has speed and most importantly, the ability to think clearly while being in a rage. I think it would be a very fair fight, but in the end, I think the Mountain and the Hound would go down together, or the Hound would win. So my vote goes to the Hound to be honest.

Otherwise, as a personal note, I think that in a fight between Jamie and the Mountain, the Mountain would have won. Jamie lacks the mental will to see something like that to the end unless he has some sort of allfullfilling goal behind it.

Yes, i agree. Jaime, at least when he still was one of the best swordfighters in the world, would have lost. I wager now he`d have the cunning, but not the skill anymore. Before a certain event he was too reckless to win against the mountain.

[SPOILER] Well if I remember correctly, during the Hand's Tourney, everyone was still fit and the wars hadn't ravaged the realms of westeros.

However, when Oberyn fought the Mountain, the latter had recently come from battle, he was still sort of injured and people were still pulling arrows from him when he arrived in King's Landing. So in a one on one fully fit i don't think there's anyone trully powerful enough to match him blow for blow nor fast or wicked enough to match the Viper's speed or poisoned spear.

Jaime may have been the best swordsman, but even so i would seriously doubt betting for him against the Mountain.

The Hound is a strong one as well and an excellent swordsman, maybe even a first choice option ahead of the Viper, but still i'd think the Mountain would eventually prevail.

I think the Hound would win, it would be close and the Mountain holds most of the advantages but I just think Sandors sheer hatred of Gregor would pull him through.

What about Robert Baratheon in his prime against the Hound? Would Robert stave the Mountain's chest in with his warhammer or would the Mountain be too big even for Robert.

Depends. If the Mountain was about to rape Lyanna, Im pretty sure Robert would have cracked his head open with his own teeth

But in a straight down fight, I think the Mountain would have won. Robert is very similar to the Mountain, although the Mountain is superior in weight, strength and brute force. I think it would be a match where they just hammer at eachother until one of them hits the ground and doesn't get up. My guess in that would be Robert.

Indeed, I though about that aswell, but if you take in the Mountains massive strength into the calculation to his huge twohanded sword, I would guess it has pretty much the same effect on Robert's armour.

Indeed; I don`t think that Robert would have been able to win against the mountain.. He`d have a higher chance than most other men, but in the end he would lose.

I think it would take a certain kind of fighter to beat the Hound, the general consensus here is that any other bigman who relies on strength is going to have a hard time.

The viper was however able to evade the hounds attacks relatively easily and would also have been able to kill him once he was down if he hadn't been complacent enough to allow himself to be grabbed. I am trying to think of similar fighters, speed over strength. Although it is hard to think of anyone who might have been as effective as the Viper. Could his daughters have done the job lol? Or Bronn?

    The Hound. Hands down.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

By matter of of pure discipline and the fact he despises "true knights", gives him a large advantage. As The mountain is a reckless machine driven by rage, and his insatiable want for violence and depravity does not make his mind his ally. A lot of the power of man that size comes from sheer initial intimidation, as the Hound is not easily or ever (afaik) intimidated by his brother. The tourney of the hand proves this rather true. When Sandor jumps to the defense of Loras Tyrell, knowing full well Gregor was intent on killing Loras and anyone in his way. When Robert calls "Stop this madness!" Sandor ducks into a bow dodging Gregor's two-handed sword with out so much as batting an eyelash.
