Default Can you believe these temps on air?

So i was going through overclock.net just rummaging through build threads and i stumbled upon this members build log.

    http://www.overclock.net/intel-build...nother-i7.html

I was reading through and at first he bought a Corsair 600t. He wasnt satisfied with the temps and room so he purchased an HAF X. He then started to test out his airflow in his case. He bought an extra 200mm fan for the top and had both top fans as intakes. Had an intake fan for the side panel and the front was intake as well. The only exhausts he had were the vents for the pci bays and the rear exhast fan. The entire time i was thinking that there would probably be pockets of hot air somewhere in that huge case but he ran prime for an hour and his max temp went from 65c to 53c... Apparently positive air flow can be great when done right... Was really amazing.. Really tempted to purchase a Haf x now instead of a haf 922.. only problem is that the case is so big...

I don't trust my reports. Apparently I am running at 19 degrees Celsius on air, lower than the ambient. Which, of course, is impossible.

This is because you have an AMD Phenom II Hexa-core, which are the only CPUs with incorrect temperature sensors right now. They usually show 7C-15C less than the actual temperature.

I'm a fan of Noctua, but that thing is ridiculous.

I tend to ignore any evaluation on temperatures when the results are based on absolute values, I much rather see a T delta taken which means you can actually compare to other systems a lot more accurately (and find out who's telling porkies)

I was just surprised by his cpu load temp dropping by 12c when creating positive air pressure in his case. Not only does it restrict the amount of dust to get inside the case but to create more headroom for overclocking? Thats a major plus in my opinion. He even put another 580 in there which will add a lot more heat. I've seen temps as high as 80-90c without proper air cooling. He stated that the only difference he saw was a 6c increase in the GPU1 temps with his 2nd 580 running at 68c at avg. It's always interesting to see these types of threads that actually produce results on someone elses rig.. Definately something I will set up if i decide to buy a Haf x... Just wish they werent almost $200.....

i prefer max temp instead of delta comparing is nice but that dosent help when your pushing hardware to the limit

I have a Noctua NH-D14 and with just IE open, CoreTemp says my AMD 6000+ is between 33-35 degees Celisus. I cannot recall anything above 50 degrees Celsius while playing Shogun 2.

Feel free to ask any more questions about my rig or temps. Case does matter also, and mine is an old Antec case that is like a tank, dont know the model, but the CPU cooler barely fit.

cheaper alternative would be the Corsair Carbide 500R granted its a mid tower but its Corsairs attempt at an air cooling case
