    Default Attack of the Pope

I just got attacked by the Pope for no reason. I didn't provoke him or go to war with his allies. He just dropped a full stack into Thessalonica and layed siege. What gives? Is he just frustrated because the Pope-mobile needs a carwash? I'm playing as Byzantines on VH/VH. It's only like turn forty. Anyone else have a similar experience?

    Voila.

Expect AI aggression for territorial expansion on H/H, and especially VH/VH. Plus, the Pope tends to dislike Orthodox nations. There is nothing strange about what happened to you; it happens somewhat frequently, IMO

no offence but you question is stupid, a nation attacked you, so what ? lol
even if it is the Pope, it doesn't matter, it's not strange to be attacked by him for no reason as long as you are not a catholic faction (or even if you are catholic it isn't strange, the AI is up in this game + you are playing VH/VH)

the Pope gets angry and needs to let off steam. Stop being a heretic and convert

(ATTN: You can not convert for you people who wonder.)

Well I apologize to the lot of you for asking a bad question. I have never seen the Papal States attack another faction unless provoked. The Pope usually stays pretty docile in all of my other games. I guess it does make a lot of sense if I just ignore the whole Pope factor and look at it as another faction invading me. Rome will fall!

    nothing strange historically.
bloody aggression of the catholics was a normal for the medieval: all those crusades, inquisitions, indulgences etc...

however good luck with this attack, but in this case you may provoke all those catholics factions who blindly obey to the Pope's "greatness"

Cool picture, but you won't find Benedict XVI doing that anytime soon in real life. Rather you will find him inviting people of all different religions to come together and pray for "world peace".
And what Catholic aggression are you talking about here?
The Crusades which were a delayed response to Islamic conquests of Christian lands?
The heretics killed in the Inquisition were killed by secular authorities, not the Church.

Please... Don't be so prejudiced... Catholics were killied as well as heretics. "Kill everyone, God will recognize right people", - Pope's legate before destroing of the cathar heresy.

Nothing against Benedict indeed... Google give only two Pope's photos that aproach to me, but I couldn't take John Paul's II photo of course...

It was bound to happen, the Catholic factions meaning the Pope were going to attack you sooner or later. Better sooner than later, now you know where you stand and quickly organize your forces and alliances.

The quote has been applied to Arnaud Amalric, abbot of Cīteaux. The accusation of him saying these words is dubious.

HMMM,I've checked my sources, and it seems that the quote is attributed to both of them. Doesn't matter actually, just another example of the stupidity, greed, bloodthurst of Christianity.

let's just realize that the most of "religion" wars was the hunting for bloody money, territory and sphere of influence...

it is equally true for Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Pagans and Orthodox (last one most hardly to say, because i am Orthodox)

I just made a picture which seemed to me funny in the context

Hahaha excellent picture. Attack of the Pope would definitely make a good movie title, also it would be a cool title for an AAR if someone were playing as the Papal States.
