Nope, it is the only way to do it i believe without multiple installs.

copy & paste the modded with RTR,Activision file and keep it in tour documents, uninstall the game delete the remaining Activision file in Programm files, after the fresh install copy and paste the Vanilla folder(with a different name in order not to confuse you)and when you get bored of it,delete the whole file and replace again with the stored RTR modded Activision,or do the opposite thing with the vanilla stored folder!i know it can be boring and capture space in hard disk drive but it is a good way not to install and uninstall the game all the time, which is much more boring!

but this is good a way to switch between vanilla RTW and RTR!
i know it is slow but is safe!!!

thanks for the tip, but i would rather try to use the modswitcher unless I can't get it to work. i downloaded two different modswitchers from TWC downloads, but i had trouble getting them to work.

I use JSGME. The trick for faster switches is the following: move the most heavy folders from '...\MODS\RTR 6.0\Data' such as 'Models_units', 'Sprites', 'UI', to your main RTW-data folder. Normally no RTW-core things should be overwritten.

So when you want to switch your mod it only needs to switch from vanilla to RTR or the other way round, the applecation only needs to past texfiles (and presumably some other things you left in), which will allow for very smooth switches.

PS: I use this to switch back and forth between SPQR and DM. It's great.

right now i have RTW 1.2 installed. So if I use JSGME, would i have to install RTR now and when would I move the JSGME into the directory? sorry, but I do't get how to even get the switcher to work right.

No problem. I know it's confusing. :sweatingb

Monkwarrior has written a decent guide on how to use it here.

    In short:

    • Extract (or copy) JSGME.exe into your Rome - TotalWar main directory.
    • Run it. It will create a MODS folder, and in it a BACKUP! folder.
    • Install your RTR into ...\Activision\Rome - TotalWar\MODS\RTR
    • Use the JSGME.exe-file each time you want to enable/disable a mod.
    • Important:

You can different mods in the same installation, but be careful with the activations.
Don't activate incompatible mods at the same time, as the backups will be messed up.
By incompatible I mean mods that share some files, and those of one mod will substitute those of the other one.

    I just use multiple installs.

    Example:

I use 1.2 as my vanilla because I will need it for the full EB and 1.2 doesn't have the repair option so you can reinstall the same patch over and over again.

Edit: Thw way I did my multiple install was this. If you want to play RTR and 1.2 this is how you do it.

    1.Install RTW vanilla.
    2.Install 1.2
    3.Copy folder.
4.Rename copy Rome Total War RTR.
    5.Install RTR to RTR folder.
6.If you want to play 1.5 install 1.5 which will write to your original Rone Total War folder.

Most of us a few mods use mutliple installs. If you have the the space on your comp, it is by far the easiest way.
