Default Stone throwers, Auxilaries and Mercenaries.

I'm not insulting all the hard work you guys have put in RTR but I few features I think should be changed. In RTR 6.0, each faction had a huge selection of mercenaries and auxilaries. This I found realistic because, at their height, the Romans could recruit Auxilaries from all over Europe, horsemen from Sarmatia, Dacia and Macedon, archers from Egypt, and Scythia, elephants from Carthage and the East. In 6.1 you took the feature away. It largely took away from the fun for me so adding the feature in the next RTR would be appreciated. Then there's stone throwers, onagers, catapults, whatever you want to call them. RTW needs something like a catapult for balance. Without powerful siege artillery to take out towers and gates, it is nearly impossible to take a walled city other than by starving them out or undermining, both of which become boring after a while. You could reskin and rebalance the onager so that it is more realistic but we need some sort of catapult because ballistae just doesn't cut it.

apparently, this is what a Roman Catapult looked like.

I'm confused... you can still recruit AoR archers, etc in the provinces you capture and you can still recruit mercenary elephants wheerever you find the elephant resource... so whats exactly the problem? I've been playing RTR Gold and haven't had a single one of the problems you listed (well minus stone throwers which I never cared for anyway; but the Roman didn't use stone throwers very much).

Well, mostly I like all the mercenaries for Custom battles. And yes, the Romans did use stone throwers and catapults. They were some of the first Armies to use artillery in the field rather than restricting it to siege use. Each legion would have something like 54 ballistae and 10 onagers. Quite an impressive siege train, wouldn't you say.

This is more like description on Roman Imperial Legion which is pass the time frame of RTR I believe. Even considering 'imperial legion' starts around Caesar or Augustus , in maybe 40 BC , since the inclusion of onagers is not deemed important due to the game only cover from 280 BC to 1 AD.

However since most games , if not blitzing will finish by 180 BC... unless one wants to keep playing past 50 cities mark.

Well, I never personally found any real use for Onagers...they more often than not killed more of MY troops than they did the enemy! And if you're unable to take a walled city by building some Siege towers well....I think you need to work on your strategy a little.

I've already hit the 50 territories mark....and I did it in under 90 years. I plan on conquering all of the territory that the real Roman Empire did....well, as the territory borders will allow, anyway.

The roman ballistas would fire both darts as well as small stones. But the flaming behemouths that are launched by the RTW onagers are 100% unrealistic.

Well then make a larger ballista that fires smaller versions of onager stones. None of this taking out gates and towers with bolts and darts. That's 100% unrealistic.
