in ten years we will be asked by our kids or grandkids, what were we doing at the exact moment that creative assembly got the ball rolling for world peace, on this momentous day, the first of many

Craig, thanks, a simple ask: could you give us the way or the files to change the number of soldiers per army in custom battle? (more than 20 units, some succeed in campaign but not in custom battle).

I thank you for all the efforts you put with a well put explanation to us to boot, and that is what we needed. There were a few of us who'd bemoan and complain, but they were a small majority in this community. Most of us enjoy and thank the efforts you put into making our games amazing and catering to us and our needs year after year despite the somewhat loud rabble and we make in hopes you'll listen. We understand you wanted the best for us, like a parent with their kid, you wanted it perfect and clean as possible so we can enjoy it in every conceivable way possible. We thank you CA, and we await for your next installment in the Total War series!

Absolutely not. It allows us to properly understand what we are editing, and in many cases, do things we couldn't do before. Simply because we didn't go near columns whose value we didn't understand previously to this.

to a certain extent yes! as we have managed to access all the important files to get mods working in game with all the editors such as PFM etc.., but I am sure there are extra xml files that can be of use to the modders?

I will watch and wait and see what becomes of these files, I hope we can make a scroll bar for one!

    Thank you Craig!

I've taken a quick look into the files. This should allow us to fully understand the db file format and create a "perfect" db editor tool.

Like what specifically? This is obviously a great step forward in that CA has given something out but i'm wondering what specifically they have actually done.

Can't be done via the db, would need pretty complex scripting. Wouldn't mind some documentation on that if CA feel like an encore

I am reminded of the Monty Python Architect Sketch:

'We're sorry you feel that way but we did want a block of flats - nice though the abbatoir is'.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2PyeXRwhCE.

(Incidentally for those for whom UK English is not their first language an abbatoir is a slaughterhouse and flats are apartments...)

I just wanted a unit editor so I could make the Spanish and Neapolitans and so on as completely useless in-game as they were historically.

And we were indeed repeatedly promised a unit editor.

Have we got a unit editor? - no we haven't.

Have we got something that can be turned into a unit editor? I kinda doubt it.

Nice though this gesture is such a data dump could have been made several years ago and given that most of the useful values in the database have long been documented in unit guides etc it is difficult to see what value they might have to the handful of people who still have any interest in modding NTW and ETW.

Anyway my copy of Shogun 2 arrived today so this may be my last post here for a long time.
