In Chiv, every faction has "something"; they're all really cool. England is always nice (doesn't have longbowmen, because they didn't have those in that era, but you can recruit their Welsh predecessors, who are basically they equals). France is your classic medieval faction, as is the Holy Roman Empire. Spanish factions focus on lightly-armed infantry and cavalry, while the Siculo-Normans have their complete own approach, as do all of the Eastern European factions. Muslim factions are different alltogether. We are developing something behind closed doors. More info on that soon.

RTR, and then I'm talking about the latest release (Fates of Empires), works completely different than the rest, so I can only suggest to play it and see what it is. Currently, the "Grand Campaign" version is in development: RTR VII, which is awesome.

Rise of Persia is the most vanilla of the three, because it basically puts Rome - Total War in 550 BC with a vanilla-style system and great factions. Persia is of course a must-play faction in this game, but they're all really fun (yes, even the various Greek city-state factions )
Currently, Rise of Persia III is in development, which is basically refining the formula that was started in Rise of Persia 2.2

My favourite is R.M 3 of course.

Roma Surrectum is my favourite but i play others depending of what i want to do or how i want to fight it.
Aristeia for some Trojan-Greek warfare, Hegemonia if i want a nice hoplite phalanx ful of Corintian helmets, Peninsula Italica features Italy before the Roman hegemony so you get to play with samnites, lucans etc.
Im just descovering RTR VII wich is for me mandatory because it has a Lusitanian Faction.
RS also benefits from his environment wich makes a huge diference from vanilla RTW.

I play RTR, which is a very good mod. My favorite factions are:
1) Seleucids: Strong units, all around good if you manage to survive the first 25-30 turns.
2) Carthage: I dont now why, I just love the feeling of killing romans Hannibal style.
3) Greek States: A real challenge. Not a choice for a first time campaign.

I like Bare Bones....just for the campaign maps. I want to figure out how to get all the campaign maps without changing rosters and keep just vanilla units instead of downloading the whole mod.

I've always loved Roma Surrectum (original, II didn't download right for some reason when I did download it) as well as Rome Total Realism.

But then I miss that vanilla feel, and I play vanilla, get angry at how it's always Rome vs You, with the standard complaints, then I mod. Almost done with my personal mod (see Who am I for some map screenies)

With RTW Gold I do have many choices it seems, ie RTW worked fine with Sparta till i updated rtw to v1.5

now nothing works had to uninstall plus clean registry and reinstall same issues with M2TW Kingdoms etc
