    Icon5 Why does the game keep crashing?

    Installed my new video card a few days ago and I was playing with ease for about 24 hours until last night I ran into a bit of a problem. I may've had the odd graphics crash at the end of a battle, causing me to restart the game, but I can't specifically recall it happening with the new card.

    Either way, after I ended the turn last night in my Byzantine campaign, I was incredibly pleased to see my Crusader States allies request my support to initiate an attack against 2 Jihad armies that were laying siege to Gaza. I counted up the total number of soldiers and it exceeded 7,500 -- one Turkish army, one Timurid army, one Byzantine army inside the citadel and the Crusader States was kind enough to bring over THREE supporting armies, two of which were led by high command generals...so in all there were 6 armies on the field...I was very pleased...because the AI generally doesn't do this (although, admittadley, the same Crusader States general, Reynaud the Bastard, initiated a similar attack a few turns back, in which we routed the Muslim invaders (it's nice having a military/marriage alliance for 150+ turns...if the AI is allowed to roam your lands...it seems they do)....and yet, excited as I was, I knew the game would crash...that's just too many soldiers and I had my settings on very high everything.

    Well, it didn't crash right away...I was able to start the battle, and I played for about 60 seconds, although once it began to take forever and move at a snail's pace I shut it down, thinking I'd turn all my settings to low and/or off and try again. Of course, the Crusader States didn't move all of the reinforcements into place the second time so there was no attack...that said, Reynaud the Bastard was still sitting outside Gaza, next to some besieging armies.

    I decided to take out one of the Turkish armies on the opposite side of the citadel from the other two previously mentioned jihading armies....which is when the campaign hit yet another standstill. I literally can't fight this battle...for whatever reason, even on the lowest possible settings, I get a graphics error everytime.
    Mind you, I just played a battle with 7,500 soldiers last night and it didn't crash...now, I can't seem to attack this army with well under that number (the Turks have 1,500, Reynaud has 600 and I have 2,200). Adding to the frustration, despite my 2-1 advantage, and despite seemingly having an 80% chance to win in an auto resolve, autoresolve always ends the same...crushing defeat.

    I tried fighting the same fight with even less (my army has 1,000, Reynaud has 600 and the AI has 1,200) and it still crashes everytime...it isn't Reynaud or his army, because I fought with him a few turns back...it isn't the Turkish general, because the game doesn't crash if I fight him 1-on-1...any guesses why the game keeps crashing on the lowest graphics settings? Shouldn't a battle with 3,000 soldiers on the lowest settings be more than easy enough for my CPU to process if I can handle 7,500 on the highest settings?

    Will that affect the ability to start the specific battle that crashes as soon as it starts or just adjust the AI's tactics in battles that work?

    Wouldn't be much point to it if it only did the later thing Can't guarantee anything but I'd try it in your place.

    I'm lost here: "6a. If setup file didn't detect Stainless Steel, go to ReallyBadAI files SS folder and copy "data" to your SS directory, then run SS setup." If I copy ReallyBadAI's data folder into my SS directory then it will replace my SS data folder and the game will no longer run, unless I'm missing something? I checked the ReallyBadAI data folder the instructions say to copy and it doesn't have the SS files in addition to its own...I keep getting a not enough "Not enough campaign or core files missing" error when I try to load the icon on my desktop.

    You can also do it manually if don't want to run the setup, just unpack it somewhere, find "<unpacked_location>\mods\g5\SS\data\campaign\sub\" read the "ReallyBadAI_Update.txt" or just overwrite everything in SS's data folder with "<unpacked_location>\mods\g5\SS\data\campaign\sub\ReallyBadAI_Update"(make backups if you want), then open "ReallyBadAI_Scripts_v5.txt" and paste it into your "data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\campaign_script.txt" between == G5 BAI STUFF == and == ADDITIONAL SCRIPTS ==.

    It's easier with the setup (that's why they made it), unless you have manually modified some of SS's files or can't remember the options you chose before.
    There is no problem with copying a folder, everything stays there, stuff just gets added.

    Wow, it somehow worked. And silly me for thinking copying the folder would overwrite the whole folder, not just add new content. First I loaded SS setup in the special crash-fix mode with the 2 additional ReallyBadAI mods, Gracuul, and BGR4, except each time I moved an army within range to attack, even if I didn't click attack, the game would crash instantly...I thought that was a bug...but it may've been the fix...because after I went back and ran SS setup again, I unchecked the crash-fix mode and the battle ran perfectly for the first time. Can't say I understand it, but +rep to both of you for your help.
